This is an image of a crying nightingale holding a thorny blue rose vine. To me, it symbolizes desiring the impossible, but being anguished at being forever unable to achieve it. The Latin alongside the rose vine states "What nourishes me, destroys me".

This piece is crafted on an 8x10 cradled white clayboard. It was painted with watercolors, and then carved with scratchboard tools.
