Artist's StatementAgain, I was quite bored in my job, so this lady came to life. I tried to stay as historically correct as possible.
She's wearing a pink robe a la francaise over her huge paniers;a stomacher decorated with ribbons, the famous pagoda sleeves and mitts. I don't kow, I just wanted her to wear mitts. She is holding a fan in one hand and a hankerchief in another, as well as two clocks hanging from her waist. I'm not sure if this was a customary detail in Europe, but in Mexico most of the female paintings of the time portray one or two clocks. They meant status more than a real use of them by the female sitters. Her hair is powdered and pulled back in a tight bun, as it was the fashion of that decade. Yeah, the background sucks but I didn't want it to overshadow the dress and also...well...I'm not good drawing them XD Done entirely in Adobe Illustrator O_O |
