I snapped this photo just as I was leaving and the sun was setting; I love the contrast between the two sides. What I think, it kind of represents two emotions the pelican may be feeling. Sad that it was hurt and is no longer able to fly over the beautiful ocean, but happy that it's still alive.

From the Virginia Marine Science Museum's Marsh Pavillion: Salt Marsh Aviary. They have a fair variety of songbirds, herons and ducks. They also have a few rescued birds, such as this pelican that was probably the victim of a fisher's line or net.
