A birthday present for my mom. We have these lovely flowers growing in our flower beds out front. And yes, they really do bloom upside down like that. How cool is that? :aww:

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out. And no, it is not an overpainting. Sketched using the grid method then paintined side by side using the photo as color reference. I was super skeptical about painting a flower since I haven't done so seriously since middle school art class. :giggle: But it was far easier than I thought. Texturing the petals was actually relaxing. I tried to make it as photo-realistic as possible...I still feel like the stem is lacking, but the more I tried to do to it, the worse it looked. So I'm calling it done and banning my mother from DA for the next week and a half. :)
