Artist's Statement
The Pliocene ground sloth, Eremotherium eomigrans, was not only important because it was the earliest ground sloth in North America, but one of the biggest, rivalling Megatherium americanum in size, and had four, instead of three talons on each hand.
Here, an E. eomigrans prepares to gut the corpse of an American mastodon, Mammut americanum, much to the delight of its turkey buzzard companions. |
