Artist's Statement
This is the sign outside of the Copal Grill in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sadly the place is being shut down after over 41 years of service because the original owner passed away and when his two sons inherited the restaurant they were required by law to bring the place up to code, but they were sadly unable to afford to do so. The Charlotte/Douglass Airport, on the hand, has been trying to snag the piece of land the Copal Grill lays on for a number of years and has bought out the land. This is even more sad due to how much of a land mark the restaurant is. On top of it being a big part of the north/east side of the city, it has been in the Hootie and the Blowfish Let Her Cry music video as well as being the location of The Killing Jar. The place has won several awards for excellence and I, along with many of it's loyal customers am sad to see such a place go.
So here is my tribute to the Copal Grill. A shot of their unforgettable neon sign. |
