The Swede

“Oh G-d–” His eyes focused just over Tomasz’ shoulders, whole body seizing up as he heard slow steady footsteps approaching, the rest of the camp muting under the sounds of roaring flames. Through the sliver of the opening, Tomasz could now see the giant of a silhouette passing in front of the fire, a dark sweeping overcoat ridden with bullet holes, and an officer’s cap, clearly not Polish in make. His face was either distorted by the red light, or was in fact, as hellish as his reputation might have suggested- flesh clinging to sinew, ear burned to a nub, and a gaping pit where there was once an eye.
