Artist's Statement

Every year the bridges in the middle of downtown Chicago are raised to allow the the sailboats sail to Lake Michigan. Featured here is one of Chicago's busiest streets, Michigan Ave, which has a double-decker bridge. This is one of 52 moveable bridges in Chicago, the most for any city in the world.

All the cars, buses and pedastrians have to wait for the few boats to sail by... a process that takes about 15 minutes for each bridge. This happens once or twice a day in May and June.

I really love the two construction workers on right leaning on the stair railings watching the boats go by. Although the main Wacker Drive construction has been done for over a year now, this section of Wacker is still being worked on. And we can see why.
