He would see to it that their world would never threaten his, or any other, planet again.
Submission for the Odyssey Project chapter 8.
Odyssey is over! What a project it has been. I have some thoughts that I will turn into a journal entry, soon.
What I liked about the last chapter was the sense that the story didn't end there. Whatever-Paul-Is-Now has defeated the immediate threat, but there is the sense that this is just the beginning for him. So this feeling is what I focused on for my last illustration. Whatever-Paul-Is-Now, triumphant over the remains of the monster, with the vast possibilities of space before him. I know that this visual is slightly different than what is described in the story; I have said this before, I'm really not interested in making an illustration that is a literal, completely accurate, visual representation of what is happening in the words. I think that good illustration transcends mere "illustration" and becomes art, and something that can communicate its own ideas, when it is a more figurative representation, not constrained by trying to make sure that every detail matches.
... is my excuse. I just really really wanted to draw a mean old fish skull.
This illustration is my visual take on the famous romantic painting Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog. [link] (did you recognize it? did you pay attention in art history class?) I love this painting and the feelings it evokes. I had used it once before in a previous project which was much less successful. I am hoping this time that you will feel that I did this classic painting justice.
Acrylic ink (colors) with digital effects (stars).

This is quite the amazing image for that story.
The main character reminds me of Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen.
