Here is my entry for contest I first saw featured on :iconfairy-tale-fantasy: for their sister group :iconfairytalesprincess:
Yes, I had to join! This is a great contest idea: A Fairy Tale Princess/heroin in the wrong fairy tale!:iconhappybounce::heart:

Poor Thumberlina got mixed up into Cinderella's story.

It all started when Brothers Grimm sent their new errand boy off to the presses with their latest collection of stories about fairy tale heroines and princesses. On the way he got cornered by bullies who took his saddle bag and emptied it contents along with the new manuscript onto the ground. Once they realized there was nothing there that interested them they let him be with their mess to clean up. Unfortunately, he paid no attention to the order the pages were in and got all the stories mixed up. So...

Thumberlina woke up with a start that morning finding herself in a huge bed that was in the maid's quarters of the house of Cinderella. She knew this couldn't be right; but shook it off like waking from a strange dream; and now to face her "new" daily reality. All cleaning and chores just went right along as they did any other day, so she thought. All the while contending to the selfish and crazy whims of her "step sisters and step mother". Of course her friends the house mice and critters of the nearby forest would help her out when the steps were not around.

Oh if only her life were different and one day her prince would come to rescue her out of this strange misery.
Well, one day the kingdom made the announcement that a ball would be held and every eligible young woman was requested to attend.

Oh how she wanted to go, but of course the steps would hear nothing of it and made fun of her; laughing harshly and saying mean things about her appearance and size.

Well, as they went off to the ball, Thumberlina went up to her room to cry. She heard a strange sound outside her window and went to open it. As she did a tiny fairy godmother about her hight and as round as she was tall came in all excited. Oh she was overjoyed to work with Thumberlina;since this was her first case, but she couldn't find her wand. Oh,dear! She dropped it outside the window. Silly fairy godmother. She commented that she would loose her wings if they weren't attached to her body. (Thumberlina was concerned she had lost her marbles all ready.)

Well, nonetheless, you know the rest: Thumberlina went to the ball and met the prince in masquerade dress as herself yet "normal" size, thanks to her fairy godmothers magic.

They were so star stuck with each other neither uttered a word all night; just sighed here and there while looking into each others eyes and dancing. However, unfortunately, the magic ran out at midnight and she ran as fast a she could before ever giving her name to the prince. Leaving behind her normal sized glass slipper. When she made it back to her home she saw she still had the other slipper on her tiny foot and kept it hidden in her room.

When the prince came to find who belonged to the slipper, well.... Thumberlina's fairy godmother was no where to be found. Thumberlina hoped that when she tried it on she would turn to the size that she was at the ball, but alas even with the other tiny shoe... no one would believe her.

Brothers Grimm please help our Thumberlina!

With help with my lack of research from comments by the allmightystarfish the story will have a happy ending....…

Not many days after the errand boy went off to the presses, Mr Hans Anderson came by to pick up his first draft of "Thumberlina". He had left it with the Grimm bothers over the holiday to let them read it. He was dying to hear there ideas and hoping for the best of their opinions.

When he got to their home, he saw that the brothers were franticly tearing up the home looking for something. He was alarmed to find that they feared they had sent his yet unfinished story off to the presses with their errand boy almost a week ago by mistake.
Well, off to the presses; to stop the manuscript from being published too early. And hopefully save some of the cost of printing on the blunder.
When they got there the printer was thrilled to show them their first copy he had done printed and to let them know he had set the type for more books to be published that day.

When the trio looked through the book they had found that Hans's story had gotten mixed up with one of theirs; and apologized to the print master for the blunder. And together all the stories got sorted out. And Han's manuscript returned.

Upon the final editing of Han's "Thumberlina" several months later; the print master set it to type; and Thumberlina finally found her self back in her own world. Never realizing that she was ever stuck in a world of large glass slippers.

Drawing was done with color soft pencils, background in PSE8.
