Artist's StatementThis toy hand series is an ongoing collection of scanning in toys hands at a very high resolution. The menacing oversized hands imply the power that toys symbolically represent. They can throw an asteroid into a lake. They can slice a semi into half.
However, the dust on some of the hands serves as a reference point. It brings back the fact that these are scaled hands via scanning. This whole notion of power is destroyed by what else? Dust. The dust says, "Hey look at me. I'm dust magnified xxxx%. These hands are nothing. They're toys. There's no real power here! Just implied power." Then on the other hand, the orientation of the hands carries a completely different tone. It looks like a begging hand. The hand is asking for something--money? love? someone to hold their hand? |
