Artist's Statement
6 year old male white lion, Ramses, from the Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro, MA.
The gold in the bottom corner of the image is the ear of a normal colored lioness. I would have preferred it not to be in the photo but it does provide a good reference for the color difference between a standard lion and a white lion. White lions are not albinos but are instead similar to white tigers. They have very light blue eyes which are highly sensitive to the sun, thus making them squint often in bright light.
