One day at work I had to prepare an asbestos report on a pub called 'The Hallowes'. I thought the name was wonderfully evocative, and determined to use it somewhere. Then as I was wandering around town some weeks later I realised that I hardly ever looked up at the buildings above the shop fronts. Above the Megastores were these old, narrow Georgian buildings with crumbling facades that inspired me to paint this - and find a use for that pub name!
