<sub>For the sci-fi contest: [link] Good thing minimalism wasn't part of the critieria because I think I went a little overboard :lol:.

This took me forever to make, I didn't want to have some generic looking planet so I thought I'd do something completely different. To be honest, I have no idea what it is, but I think the unknown phenomenon adds to the science-fictioniness of it. The inspiration came to me while I was looking at a plasma ball at walmart. It started out as a 3D model which I used as a base for matte painting in photoshop. Hopefully it's not too much of an eye full for your desktop ;)
