Description

Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches. I've been experimenting with my style, trying to find something that is "me" and here is something I tried and do like. the idea is too focus on color and essence of form and how color makes it up or enhances form or subject. so here i painted a vase of spring flowers (For my Step-father's mother who was in the hospital, but is currently getting better) my goal was to make it as bright and powerful colors as I could, yet keep it soft and comfortable. I would like some critique and things anyone likes about it, it would help greatly as I experiment further. Hope you enjoy it :)

As always, I love your colors and ability to texture. I kind of like the way you outlined many of the different items, such as the vase and the petals on the table or the vast mass of leaves. one thing I like about this is how you blended the background to show off the vase but it doesn't look unnatural. I'm curious, though, what the design on the front of the vase is supposed to be? It's pretty but I find it distracting from the flowers. I think the image might of had a greater effect had that design been removed. Maybe you could have replaced it with something that matched the color of the vase so that it didn't stand out so much. I think even removing the orange outline from around it would have helped. You did a really good job with the shading on the table, again done in such a way that adds to the total effect instead of being a distraction. You did a fabulous job incorporating all the different flowers and leaves in there. I don't think I could even pick out a favorite flower! Back to the outlines, the way the sunflowers are outlined in blue is great. it really make them stand out from the crowd, but again the blue outline doesn't jump out at you. overall, a very good composition.
