Run, run, run! :D
This is a picture of a Heuglin's Courser (Rhinoptilus cinctus) done for Vanellus, an electronic bulletin of a Czech Wader Study Group (Skupina pro výzkum a ochranu bahňáků České společnosti ornitologické - SVOB). I was supposed to draw any wader I want, so I chose something exotic :).
I had the pleasure to meet this guy on our holiday in Kenya. It's an awesome bird, who lives up to it's name and runs quickly around. But even though it's rather colorful, when it stops, it's quite difficult to find it, because its color is very similar to its surroundings. In Kenya, our guide Mosis showed us one adult ans also its nest - well if it can even be called nest. It was an egg buried in the ground, so just one side was visible. It was so well camouflaged I couldn't find it even though it was just a few dozens of centimeters in front of me :) The guide told us this bird always lays two eggs, so it was probably about to lay the second one soon. The bird was always keeping an eye on us and I realised it probably suffered an accident, because one of its legs looked like it was broken and then healed. Still the bird seemed full of life, so I was happy that it was able to survive :)
