Week 7, was different to how I expected it. Friday night played poker with the boys, we talked about life; what we were hoping for in 2012. By the time we wrapped up it was just after midnight, I packed up and headed home. A street away from my house my car electrics stop. Coasting I make it into a nearby driveway and turn everything off. Attempting to start again nothing was turning over, you couldn't even here the ignition's futile attempt to start my tank of a car. Conveniently as I was only a two or so minute walk from home I could drop my camera and poker chips off there and grab my father, the engineer of the bunch, to take a look. Evidently calling roadside assist meant a 2 hour wait before they arrived. The RACV mechanic sounded Eastern European, he had a heavy accent that I thought was fantastic. Apparently one of the main circuits was pulling over 20 Amps and had blown a fuse. He called a flatbed to pick up the car to be able to grab it as the street it was on was generally very busy. At this point it was around 3am. Waiting for the flatbed we sat around and watched a guy, clearly mad at a taxi, throw a bottle at the yellow stationwagon as it took off past him all the while being cursed at. At 4am we see a flatbed drive by, clearly missing the turn off. My phone was practically flat, and it turned out so was the driver's. He pulled off the road and fell asleep while waiting for his phone to charge so he could get the call to find out exactly where we were. After a short wander over and a, "we're over here" he makes it to where the car is stranded. In the midst of all this I had grabbed another car so he could follow us to where my mechanic is. After dropping it off we headed home and I finally made it to bed, at around 5am, half asking myself whether or not it's worth just staying up rather than trying to get what little sleep I could. |
