We need to believe.

I often hear this. And I wonder if this need is so often given over to deities, fantasies, cryptids, aliens and conspiracies because we've made it so difficult to believe in ourselves or each other.

Or is it a habit, an addiction, something we just can't stop doing because we've been leaning on them for so long that our tiny minds cannot stay upright without them.

Do we need them mainly because they so desperately rely on us for their continued existence?
