The Flatow Tower in Potsdam district of Babelsberg is situated at the height of Mount Babel in Babelsberg Park. The building consists of a 46-meter towering brick tower with battlements and a side mounted, an upper walkway, four turrets and a spire. The Flatow tower got its name from the estate Flatow, from which came the brick material.

On the hill of Babylon mountain plateau since the year 1753 was the Dutch wind-mill and cutting of Hofrat Rehnitz. After the Rehnitsche mill in 1848, a fire had fallen victim to, was in the years from 1853 to 1856 the bastion-like Flatow tower - built - in reference to the Eschenheimer gate tower in Frankfurt am Main, in the midst of a water reservoir as a lookout and guest apartment.

The architect of the neogothic observation tower (also Belvedere called) was Johann Heinrich Strack (1805-1880). The architecture of the tower produces a relation to the German Middle Ages.

Der Flatowturm im Potsdamer Stadtteil Babelsberg ist auf der Höhe des Babelsberges im Park Babelsberg gelegen. Das Gebäude besteht aus einem 46 Meter hoch aufragenden Backsteinturm mit Zinnen und einem seitlichen Anbau, einem oberen Wehrgang, vier Erkertürmchen und einem Spitzhelm. Der Flatowturm erhielt seinen Namen von dem Gut Flatow, von dem das Ziegelmaterial kam.

Auf dem Hügelplateau des Babelsberges stand seit dem Jahr 1753 die holländische Wind- und Schneidemühle des Hofrates Rehnitz. Nachdem die Rehnitsche Mühle im Jahr 1848 einem Brand zum Opfer gefallen war, wurde in den Jahren von 1853 bis 1856 der bastionsartige Flatowturm – in Anlehnung an den Eschenheimer Torturm in Frankfurt am Main, inmitten eines Wasserreservoirs als Aussichtspunkt und Gästewohnung – erbaut.

Der Architekt des neogotischen Aussichtsturmes (auch Belvedere genannt) war Johann Heinrich Strack (1805–1880). Die Architektur des Turms stellt einen Bezug zum deutschen Mittelalter her.
