Tibetans are facing an immense cultural upheaval, and Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns have been self-immolating out of protest because devout Buddhism prohibits violence of any kind, even in the face of oppression.

I'm not Tibetan, and I'm not even Buddhist, but the kind of total devotion to non-violence, even toward an adversary who's threatening to wipe out your entire culture, that compels a person to set him or herself on fire and just burn to death is just incredible.
