Artist's Statement

Sometimes when I hike out the ice of Lake Superior at dawn the world seems so quiet. It feels as if the rocks and trees are all sleeping. When I pause to listen I can hear nothing but my breath.

Then the sun comes up over the horizon and far off in the distance the ice begins to creak and crack... like the hint of warmth assaulting winter's firm grip on the land and water.

the sounds of a sleeping world as it wakes.
