Artist's Statement

The children of Lincoln Square in Chicago took the sidewalk to the Lombard Lamp. I was already lateish to work, but I couldn't pass this up. I setup tripod to capture this HDR.

Normally I shoot at f22 to make everything super sharp, but i like this f 1.8 apertture to soften some of the features to help pop the flowers and central fleur de lis.

It was challenging making the chalk apparent. The lamp is a nice light blue pumping up the saturation in the photo just blows out the blue of the lamp and doesn't bring out the chalk colors. The split toning in Lightroom helped to tone down the blue of the lamp. I added magenta to the shadows to neutralize the blues of the lamp and bring out the blue chalk. And then I warmed up the temperature overall a bit to bring out the yellow chalk.

While I'm not a fan of Ivan Albright, this kinda looks like his paintings in the Art Institute of Chicago.
