"Along Came a Spider" -- line art in biro on paper, digitally colored in Corel Painter on Intuos 3 tablet
For Enchanted Visions Project's monthly theme for March 2011 of the same title. I decided to depict the spider demon of Japanese folklore, known as "Joro/Jorou Gumo", which is an attractive lady-of-the-night by day, a man-eating spider by night. (There's more description on the subject matter on the "Along Came a Spider - line" deviation page.) I love drawing Japanese kimono textile designs. I like doing research on it as well as designing. My taste in this matter tends to be old-fashioned, so you're seeing cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, peonies, and plum blossoms on her and not flowers like roses and lilies, which would be more contemporary design motifs. I really like the way this one turned out. I know it's very different from most other EV artists interpretations of the theme. :D I love being different. ©Aruarian Dancer/Mitzi Sato-Wiuff |
