Artist's Statement

This was an assignment for my Illustration class a while back. The idea was to interpret the lyrics to Bob Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man".
I chose to do it from the point of view of the main character Mr. Jones, a stiff-collared conservative man who walks into a room full of circus freaks and is utterly confused by the whole thing. I took it represent all of the aging Joneses in the '60s who are confronted by the social upheaval going on at the time and didn't understand it.
Mr. Jones is sitting in his safe little Status Quo Box, staring up at the rat, who represents Change, a great threat to his comfortable world of postwar conformity.

It's all very symbolic.

Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
