Artist's Statement

One thing that I need more practice with is character creation. While working from ones imagination can be great, I often find it can be helpful to base things off reality. In this weeks image, I took a couple friends of mine as sort of a template to start from. While it may not exactly be accurate, it certainly lends to creating something that has a bit more originality.

While it’s not exactly easy to tell with this image, I also am trying to experiment with more complicated lighting systems. The only done side to doing this sort of thing is that the render times can get obscenely long. Even though this image is only 750 x 1000, it took about three hours to render. I’m actually in the process of rendering out a larger version of the same image before I post it on Deviant Art.

As usual, the image was rendered in Carrara and some post work was done in Photoshop Elements and Postworkshop. I picked up some lighting packs for Dimension Theory a while ago and I finally started using them with this image. While I doubt I’ll be using them for the comic stuff, I probably be working more with them in my weekly art.
