Artist's Statement
I can't believe I haven't uploaded these!
Taken in Spring of 2010, Dim Horizon Studio and I went for a bit of urban exploration to one of his favorite haunts. Finding a sci-fi scene is near impossible in Atlanta, so we opted for a dystopian, bombed out shell of a paint factory. The costume was created back in 2008 for a stage show at RealmsCon. I didn't have a lot of time to work on it, and was very perplexed on how to go about making it. I had only been working with spandex since 2007, and doing simple things like Dark Phoenix and Super Girl. I made a white bodysuit and placed it on my mannequin, and proceeded to draw out the sections I would want for the varying colors. By the time I was done, it looked like a jig-saw puzzle! I didn't have a serger at the time, and had to super reinforce each stitch with a zig-zag stitch (up to 4 times in some places!). I also wanted to find a way to do the black lines to separate the sections, but truth be told, I just couldn't figure it out. This was also my first time making spandex boot covers, and they were surprisingly easy! Also, yes, that is the ubiquitous Maverick Nerf gun. When I wore the costume to Anime South, I wanted a weapon, and my friend Mia just happened to have one of those lying around in her car (I love costumers, or Nerf enthusiasts). We went to the ONE Wal-Mart in a 20 mile radius and picked up black lacquer pint and Krylon's silver, and I went to town. Not bad for my first mod. :D Photography Credits: Dim Horizon Studio [link] Costume Creation: Me! Model: Me, again ^_^ |
