St Cuthbert's Isle - large

Here's my second version of a view of St Cuthbert's Isle. Sennelier oil pastels on 220gsm Daler-Rowney Heavyweight cartridge paper, prepared with 2 coats of Galleria acrylic gesso (to give a rough canvas-like texture). A3 size (16x12 inches). I tried to give the water a bit of an impressionist appearance. Please do let me know what you think!

St Cuthbert's Isle is a small island off the Island of Holy Island (Lindisfarne) in Northumberland, England. Holy island is a tidal island, where it is possible to cross to the island on dry ground at low tide, but twice a day the sea rises and cuts off the island. The 7th century holy man, Cuthbert, lived on Lindisfarne in the newly established monastery there. However his fame grew, as he was such a powerful man of God, in word and the miracles he did.

So Cuthbert relocated to this tiny island, to which it is possible (but difficult!) to cross over the rocks on dry land at low tide. So Cuthbert had at least 6 hours of peace and quiet for at least 6 hours a day - other than devoted fans waving and shouting over at him.

Fame must be tough...
