Final Fantasy X, Tidus' Brotherhood
Weapon Making + minor photo edit :iconamenokitarou: Photography: :iconblurmage: This is the preview to the epic and suicidally cold Final Fantasy X shoot that happened after SMASH 2010 I made this prop for the remake of my Tidus costume, as a celebration to my 2nd anniversary of costume making. Hopefully I have improved over the years... :thumb99661736: About the Weapon As a step up from 2 years ago when I made this out of wood and relied on a good paint job, this time I decided to challenge myself to go all the way and create a translucent version so I can play with the light. First I carved 2 casts from a plank of 12mm pine wood, then covered the surface with aluminium foil. Then I applied a mixture of fibreglass cloth and loose fibreglass strands to achieve the icy pattern effect. Then I used clear casting/embedding resin on the fibreglass. The name of the resin is kind of self explanatory, but it ensures that the sword sets clear. After 2 days of painful fibreglassing and resin-ing and waiting for things to set...I was able to detail the sword with sculpey oven dry clay. I actually decided to buy all the accurate colours of clay and make each detail one after another as they are added onto each other. Finally, it was finished with Tamiya clear blue spray paint, (oh the gift of god), wrap the handle in traditional Japanese style, and tie the red material to the tip. Weapon was completed in 4 days. I hope you like it :) |
