A photograph of the past. With Modus Vivendi, I wanted to depict the roman way of life: bathing on thermae like those ones was certainly one of the most important aspects of the daily life in those days. You can see those fictional thermae (roman baths), but historically quite accurate: they could have done it. I used a lot of references, mainly those done by XIX century architect Viollet le Duc, as he reconstructed in pictures the ancient Baths of Caracalla (early III century). Those thermae are not as impressive as the Caracallas ones, but we should think that those characters you see here lived essentially on roman provinces. |
