Nut and Geb

I've been working on this picture as my second entry for Ancient Egypt contest [link]
It's the ancient Egyptian god and goddess Geb and Nut being forced apart.
But...I'm having problems with it, and can't seem to resolve them, so I'm throwing it out to critique in the hope that someone can help me stop it looking so messy

Update: did some more to it and am a bit happier.
