'Etu Moana' is the Maori word for blue starfish.

I just returned from a fantastic trip to Aitutaki Atoll in The Cook Islands in the heart of the South Pacific. I had a feeling that a great sunset would materialize this night and I spent 3 hours walking up and down the beach looking for a suitable foreground and wasn't having much luck until I glanced down and saw this little guy. He was invisible without polarized sunglasses and luckily I had just put mine on. Believe it or not, these guys move pretty fast and I had to use a high ISO to keep the shutter speed up and hold the limb movement to a minimum. This was a fairly productive trip photographically and I will be posting more shots from these beautiful islands over the next couple weeks.

/update 2015/ I reedited this shot about a year ago, as I found the original post-editing work to be too harsh. Too much contrast had obscured much of the detail of the scene.

Night of echoes, missing faces
missing steps of missing men
in a dream of grey old shadows
Smoking cigarettes with ghosts

Kirlian Camera – Wasted Bridges

Shot exactly 35 minutes after Underneath the Veil, this place was our original destination and this view was exactly the view we were hoping for. At least for me that is. Easy to understand why upon seeing it I completely forgot to keep on nagging about why we didn’t linger a bit more at the previous location.

It was a magical morning indeed; everything was perfectly still and silent, except for the water calmly running past us. We were lucky enough to find a spot were the river was shallow enough to allow us to set up right in the middle of it. Looking back I think this was the last totally perfect magical morning of our Easter vacation. Right after that my tonsillitis kicked in and I started swallowing hot coals which significantly diminished the pleasure of the days to follow. However, looking back I definitely wish I could go back and do it all over again... even the painful bit.

Hope you enjoy your visit here!

A Painters Sunset

Wild Sunflowers captured at dusk in Boulder County, Colorado. This scene was downright amazing and with the storms rolling in the smell of the rain falling, it was something to photograph. The name comes from what I think it represents and how it reminds me a lot of a painting done by French Impressionism painters. It really has that kind of look and feel to me, so I thought that name would represent it well.

HDR blended exposure of 4 shots, please check out more from this series/photoshoot below.
Hope ya all like it!

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

Because of the number of lives they have claimed, the Maroon Bells Are often referred to as the deadly bells.

There is a sign at the trailhead. (right near where i took this photo) It's supposed to serve as a last warning to would be climbers about the perils of attempting these peaks.

it reads...

"The Deadly Bells"

The beautiful Maroon Bells ... have claimed many lives in the past few years. They are unbelievably deceptive. The rock is downsloping, rotten, loose, and unstable. It kills without warning. The snowfields are treacherous, poorly consolidated, and no place for a novice climber. The gullies are death traps. Expert climbers who did not know the proper routes have died on these peaks. Don't repeat their mistakes, for only rarely have these mountains given a second chance.

Under the right conditions, the reflection of the maroon bells in maroon lake is about as perfect of a scene as you could ever hope for. It's a photographers dream. On any given fall morning you will find a hundred or more people lined up along the shore well before sunrise to stake their claim.

It's been a while since i ever upload another HDR shot. So here's 1 for the update.

This is a photo that i took a while ago at the shores of Malacca. The name of this place is Pantai Klebong(Klebong Beach) - Malacca. I think it's the only place where u can see formations of rocks coupling with civilization around.

I wish we could open our eyes
To see in all directions at the same time
Oh what a beautiful view
If you were never aware of what was around you
And it is true what you said
That I live like a hermit in my own head
But when the sun shines again
I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in.

Sometimes when I hike out on the ice of Lake Superior at dawn the world seems so quiet. It feels as if the rocks and trees are all sleeping. When I pause to listen I can hear nothing but my breath.

Then the sun comes up over the horizon and far off in the distance the ice begins to creak and crack... like the hint of warmth assaulting winter's firm grip on the land and water.

the sounds of a sleeping world as it wakes.

This was taken during my latest trip to Italy when we visited Cinque Terre. I forget which of the 5 villages this was in, but each village was just breath taking with numerous places that were practically created to take pictures at. The way everything was placed and the way the light of the sun hit just made every picture come out stunningly. And the Mediterranean has to be the blues ocean I've ever seen. Haha.

This was just a few lone boats next to a closed geletaria overlooking the shore of the sea and the sea itself.

Let me know what you think and enjoy :]

It looked like it would be great sunset. It wasn't but I was able to come up with something like this.

ND grad + cold white balance.

This is part of a nature reserve which has been allowed to regain the original look and feel of an ancient forest. The entire area is completely covered with spongy moss (great for walking on).

The only sound to be heard is the rustling of the wind through the towering pines ...and of course the occasional bird call.
