yup, it's back up. except this time, the background in the first panel is alll ala limey. haha, i just took that friggin house and painted right over the sucker, turning it into... the exact same house! except this time i made it. if you don't believe me, check the matching sceencap. trust me, i made this mo fo. and yes it was a mo fo to make. 8D

i know i said in my journal that "there was no way in hell" i would do exactly what i just did (lulz) a) I didn't want pg 1 to stay down forever and b) i didn't want a blank bg. it wasn't so bad making it. and you know, there are always going to be people out there with giant sticks up their asses. all you have to do is laugh and move on!

so here's pg 1 all over again... now i'll be able to work on pg 6. i've been pretty busy lately (and sorta kinda depressed...moving on) which is why 6 has been delay. but it's all good, i'll work on it tomorrow. : )

My first (and sadly my only) Kataang week entry. The prompt was "Gravity"...so I figured I'd do the flip side, defying gravity. So here are Aang and Katara, taking a joyride-through-the-sky somewhere outside the Eastern Air Temple. I've had this pic in my imagination for a long time, and I'm glad I finally got to draw it.

I got the idea when I realized that I had never seen Katara drawn in airbender clothes before. I mean, she wears fire nation, water tribe, and earth kingdom clothes in the series, but we never see her in air nomad clothes. I don't even think I've seen any fanart of her in airbender garb. But now that she and Aang are an item, it seems logical that she might don airbender attire at some point.

And the result...she looks really cute! So here are Aang and Katara, maybe ages 17 and 15. This is dedicated to all my fellow Kataangers - we held strong in an endless SEA of screaming, foaming, melodrama-loving Zutarians...and we prevailed! ROA, ROA, FIGHT DA PO-WAH! [/end TTGL reference]

Pointless fluffy Appa love.

I've noticed that in EVERY Avatar fanart I've drawn (except for one sketch) Zuko's on the pic. So I made a point of NOT drawing him this time. ^__~

(My monitor is seriously out of whack at the moment, it flickers and throws a purple hue on everything. So if the colors should be off, that might be the reason. )

Aang is using his newly learned firebending skills to form little dancing guys that go "whee", and Zuko is desperately in need of a desk to introduce his forehead to.

Kind of a "what if" scenario, although most of the fandom sees it coming and/or hopes for it that Zuko and Iroh will join the Avatar's gang and teach Aang how to firebend. Well, I certainly do! xD

However, while it would be funny like hell if Zuko was to teach Aang, it would probably not work out. For one, I think Zuko isn't the teacher type, and even if he was, Aang and he are completely different types. Zuko has said before that Aang was a genius like Azula, and Zuko would be irritated to no end if Aang figured out the whole firebending deal in a few days while he himself had to work his whole life.

WHATEVER! I still think it would be fun.

(Quick explanation for those who may be confused/didn't play this game obsessively with brothers during grade school: They're playing a naval board game called Battleship, essentially a series of grids and pegs. You call out location on the board, and if your opponent has a plastic ship in that location, it takes a hit. Blow up all your opponent's ships and you win. Zhao's the Fire Nation Battleship Champion. Damn Ocean spirits just have to screw everything up.)

ZUTARA WEEK - 7.9.2008 - SMUG

What would Zutara week be without a little Fandomme?
Actually, I had originally planned something different (true friends deviation) , but while I was rereading Ozai's Vengeance, I found this little scene. The whole fic is replete with little Zutaran intimacies like this.

The story takes place many years after the current storyline, Zuko is 29, Katara, 27.

And no, I don't draw Toph's eyes. It just happens that way. If I do a close up of her face, then I will.

Yes. You were all thinking it but *Taigan requested it... Avatar GB. All angry flames or joyous praise can be directed towards his general direction.

O_o I think I'm gonna be known as "The GB Artist" now. Here's just a few characters from Avatar that first came to mind. For some chars, I already had a general idea and it was easy. Aang was the only one I didn't know but him being the main character and all, I felt compelled to attempt a version. Not so happy with the results. Below are some rants that I typed up on a whim.

Azula: Now the son of the Fire Lord, he is destined for the throne. He is a brat. He calls people names. He has no manners. A little immature but has deadly ambition.

Zuko: Has huge scar on face. Doomed to submit to an arranged marriage on her sixteen birthday unless by some miracle she finds the Avatar and gains favor. Permanently in PMS-mode. Harassed by lewd men while working as tea-serving girl at lower ring circle in Ba Sing Se. Vowed to kill all men. Constantly wails that she’ll never find a boyfriend/husband and will die sad, lonely, and a virgin.

Katara: Is a boy. Not a girl. Does not have hair loopies. Wants to become great waterbender so he can be a good chief. As a male, feels overwhelming need to protect defenseless females. So far is unable to find females who are defenseless. Bullied by older sister. Has strange attraction towards older females: preferably those wielding sharp, pointy, swords + tree houses.

Sokka: Exasperated older sister. Struggles to prevent naïve, younger brother from being seduced by busty, older females. She herself is quite busty. Attracts men like penguins to fish. Wants to find hot, attractive male to settle down and have kids. Is unable to do so because younger brother wants to save the world (because he will someday become chief).

Aang: Sweet and soooo adorable. The Avatar. Must save world from Fire Nation. Has crush the size of Appa on sexy, kind waterbender. Very prone to blushing. Comes from Eastern Air Temple. Regards f!Sokka as her big sister.

Yue: Prince of the Northern Water Tribe. Not a waterbender but enjoys taking long boat rides and chatting up pretty Southern Water Tribe females. Has a friendly smile. Is kind and loyal to his people. Generally a Nice Guy. Has white hair.

Toph: Exactly the same.

FULL-VIEW!!!

This is my vision of Toph before the Gaang came along to take her out...when she was completely alone, with no friends or anyone to really talk to. That had to be a sad part of her life....

I decided to draw this pic while listening to the song of the same name by Avril Lavigne. I listened to several of her songs while working on it...only her songs....it gave an interesting drive to this piece, and perhaps a unique taste. The songs really seemed to fit the concept I had in mind....

Also done for , due to his request of a pic with "just Toph and rocks." Also, emphasis on folds. So, I did so....profile view might not have been the desire, but it's what I gave.

The original idea was for Toph to be walking her pet rock, but then the thought came to me that she couldn't show her powers to her parents, but would have to earthbend secretly--and that got me thinking of a lot of Toph angst and emotion. Nighttime, alone, sitting gloomily....I could not let the idea sit. I originally wanted to have her making some rocks orbit around her, but that didn't turn out quite as I envisioned it....it just didn't look right. So, I added in a right hand and put a rock in it.

I reffed it a lot, but....the whole background was done with simple reference, done from no real specific pictures. Shading, likewise.

Toph was drawn by hand. Except for the right hand...that was digital.

EVERYTHING ELSE was done in Paint, including the coloring.

This is a submission for her contest--everything's done in Paint, so I don't really expect to have a running shot in it (if you haven't seen what this is up against, go over there and look, some of the coloring is INCREDIBLE!!!), but I might get a point or two for creativity. ^_^

Is there symbolism to this? Meaning? Well, yeah, I suppose, but it also happened that the positions of the feet lined up properly like this. Though, looking at it now, it DOES sort of look like Aang, Sokka, and Zuko are doing the Cingular bars thing....but yeah, it was mainly the feet. And a bit of Kataang thrown in. I mean, hey, the Zutarians already have theirs up, Kataang needs a shot here!

Thanks a BUNCH to , who gave me some tips on fixing up the ice and coloring in general. Yeah, the coloring is simple, but it's done in my usual style--draw (or in this case, print), ink, scan, use Paint....ta-da!

Took me roughly....three hours, I think? Kind of rushed, I guess, but....I'm happy with it. Yeah, the sky is rubbish, but I felt that a detailed sky would detract from the focus on the characters and reflections.

If you've seen the season 2 finale of Avatar, this will make a bit more sense.

All characters belong to Mike, Bryan, Nickelodeon, etc...I'm just having harmless fun with them. No really! Harmless!

As some of you may know, in the live action adaptation of The Last Airbender, the firebenders now need a source of fire to do their firebending.
They do not create their own fire.

Do note that some masters are capable of creating their own fire, but I don't know their ratios compared to regular soldiers.

Which may lead to some...well...problems.

Last airbender belongs to Nickelodeon, Paramount, Viacom.

A page from the "Private Fire" comic done for Nickelodeon. These appeared as mini comics included with the season 3 individual DVDs.
Sokka, disguised as Wang Fire, infiltrates the fire nation army hoping to learn some fire nation secrets. Things turn sour when he learns his division is to be sent to the front.

Though none of the main Avatar cast is on this page, it was a fun one to do. I have grown up with the Asterix books and I found plenty of inspiration from the roman centurions.

Idea came about after hearing mention of "ship wars", especially with the Season 2 finale coming up. Zutara, Kataang...personally, I'm totally neutral.
Doesn't mean I can't have fun with the whole thing, heehee.

This idea just bonked me on the head so quickly, I had to draw it.

And no, Jin didn't put anything weird in Zuko's food or drink!! Something just...clicked inside Zuko's brain. Hehe, me evil.

Uh, yeah, tried a bunch of new stuff for the process, none of which is really reflected in the final product. First, my blue pencil is like this sad nub so I made myself a light table out of some plexiglass and my desk lamp, it was sort of flimsy but it cut down penciling time by like a million... units. Inking was easy since I forced myself to use no weights, and instead show volumes with colors, which I suck at.

For colors I veered away from the usual dark dramatic colors and went for the lighter, crazier colors. Saw this pallet somewhere that I can't remember and wanted to try it out.

For photoshopping, tried out that threshold thinger and it cut down the flats process a bunch... unfortuantely getting all the colors to match and not look too hideous took hours.

Also these pages were huge, so I couldn't work on them at the same time because my computer likes to crash when I do that, so I was forced to use a minimum of layers... I learned I can hold off on certain colors until the very end, like the eyes, though honestly it creeps me out when they don't have eyes filled in.

Anyways, a really good learning process, also I made the bubbles with the tablet, which I will do in the future since they are fun to look at and didn't take long at all.

And as a final note, I was sad I wasn't able to fit Zhao in the comic anywhere, so in consolation here is his crazy "lovechild" as someone described it: [link]

but. upon further thinking it hit me XDDD

i had a theory which works the oedipal thing in our favor XDDD

What makes it somewhat ok for Zutara to happen in light of this new claim of Oedophilia is that, Katara never treated Zuko like a son. If Zuko does fall for katara now it won't be because she happens to look like Ursa. It's because I predict there will be more interaction between these two, and they will get closer. plus Katara's a strong and beautiful bender. If she happens to look better just cos she has a hairstyle similar to Ursa, you can't hold that against Zuko then XD. He has already shown a bit of an interest in her in CoD, in the cave you know...?
Why the Oedipus complex works against Kataang is because ... Katara sadly DOES treat Aang like a son. Therefore it does seem odd for Aang to fall for someone who treats him like her son XD. Katara never treated Zuko in that manner.

This was a comic I made on the spur of the moment so urm... there really isn't any plot. Heh. Just me messing around with character expressions and Photoshop tricks. Woo! I have Crazy!Backgrounds yay. Yes, Katara is super!melodramatic but it was fun drawing her that way so nyeh! I adult Zuzu and Katara.

Edit: Woo! I started a comic called Metallic Reaction which is about metalbender Loh Gam and his adventures during the Avatar: TLA Season 2 Wrap Party.

Yay for Avatar fanart! I'm sorry, but my 'Scandalous' ID was just not working with me, so I tried some fanart. I dont know what or how, but any talent I used to possess has suddenly evaporated. I'd like to cry in a corner now. I'm trying to get it back, so hopefully this picture will help. I tried to make the background reflect Katar'as nature. Water is a given, but I always pictured her sould to be verdent and tranquil. The rock was just plain fun to make. *loves rock*

I adore Katara's color palette. Really, Katara is the the most beautiful character to ever hit anime. *hums the 'If I was Gay' song* I want to do some Sokka fanart too because 1. I'm a little Sokka fangirl *squee* and 2. he has the same sexiriffic color palette...Katara just has funner/better hair. Nyaa.

Complaints- I dont know whats up with the shoes. Fuzzyrific. I accidentally screwed up the trees because I put a filter onto it before colapsing the layers. When I relized my error it was too late. *gasp* What a sexy rock. I luff teh rock.

finally got around to doing fanart of the avatar dudes: zuko, jet, haru, sokka, and aang, who's wishing he was half as cool-looking as the guys up front, hahaa

too bad hakoda and ozai didn't manage to squeeze themselves in. but that's probably for the better--the picture's a pastel-colored rainbow! ..oh well, at least The Zupples are showing

i ALSO heard that the movie was really crappy! to be honest i still don't know whether who i prefer as zuko--dev patel or jesse mccartney (seriously..lol)
i'll stick to the cartoon.

he asked for a remake of an old piece i did of Avatar. this piece features 2 of the 5 characters. changed the design a bit but the overall look and character of the characters remained the same. Toph is still flippin the world off. and Zuko is still in a somewhat reserved state.
