Nice sunrise, very "painting-like" scene.

This is a panorama of 2 shots. It had to be square crop due to limits of the composition in the area, and cropping one shot didn't give me the angle I wanted. The sky was amazing and I wanted to show a lot of sky and a lot of the grass, while not shooting from a too low angle because then the lit fringes of the grass would get too 'flat' in the photo if you know what I mean....The lower you shoot, the more immediate foreground you get and less of the more distant foreground.

I blended 3 different exposures in each photo, one for the grass, one for the highlight around the sun and the last for the darker part of the sky. Except for the blended exposures, not much processing. The color on the RAW images was already amazing.

Western Cape, South Africa
Sigma 10-20mm
Lee 0.9 hard grad

I know the lighting looks surreal, I know the grad line is visible. If you have advice on improving it, feel free to shoot.

I honestly don't want a comment on rule of thirds, I always compose 3rds where it works the best, if it doesn't then I won't. Respect the artist's opinion and skill on the composition of his art. It's really irritating and infuriating if you went to a mountain of effort and you produced, to the best of your abilities, what you consider to be one of your best images, and everyone just bitches and moans about things like rule of 3rds. It should actually be the 'handy tip of 3rds', it's not a rule, some people consider it a law punishable by death if betrayed.

Another shot of the Uyuni salt plains, Bolivia.

The jeep was our home for three days while we travelled between Bolivia and Northern Chile across the Attacama desert.

Hope you like.

P.S. The lovely Laura is the person in shot trying to look like she isn't posing :)

While home from school in New Jersey, I woke up early to catch the sunrise. Shortly after the sun completely broke the horizon, the sky changed from a deep red color to an amazing orange, and the snow on the beach began to glow. I crouched down and positioned the sun directly behind the roofs of the cabanas at a local beach club. The snow on the left was over three feet deep, and the faint glowing horizon is the Atlantic Ocean. Waking up at 5:30 am was worth it! The cabanas are all boarded up for the winter, and will be opened up again in the summer.

Some of the mountains at the top of Lochgoil.

I visited Lochgoilhead many years ago while at a outdoor sports camp, and always wanted to go back. However the village is very remote and not easily accessible, so I had to wait almost a decade!

The village was almost exactly the same as I remember.

Lots of good memories :)

This past weekend was spent exploring the Oregon Coast. This was our last stop on Sunday. The waterfall didn't have as much flow as I had hoped, so perhaps a return trip is in store at a wetter time of year. :D

I was lucky enough to make a trip up to the paria plateau with a few other photographers to photograph some passing storms. This was a location I had dreamed of photographing for a few years now and could barely contain my excitement on the drive in. Unless you know of this place, it's best to keep it relatively to yourself. After miles of 4x4 sand roads, you see a massive mound of sandstone signaling the arrival of the location. The light was beginning to break through the clouds and we witnessed some heavenly light at sunset. The following morning, myself and another photographer headed out in the dark to try some night photography. The skies here are some of the darkest I've ever seen, which doesn't surprise me with how remote it is here. After the stars disappeared a storm front moved in and provided us with some very dramatic skies before and after sunrise. I was attracted to the sandstone patterns here as the colors between the sky and landscape yielded some great photographic opportunities. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Every little corner of the stone offers fantastic photography. I was happy to have finally visited this location, and plan to return over the summer for some more dramatic weather.

This atmosphere was worth getting up also on feast by 5 o´clock in the morning. What a mood to start Father's Day .
As the sun was rising I already wanted to leave the location as suddenly this sick light emerged. The time window was only extremely short and I even had to give up my portrait, as the sun disappeared immediately behind the thick clouds.

So how about some unseen Iceland shots to announce my new workshops next year? :)

A wave, rushing back into the ocean, formed countless stripes and a focusing formation on the black beach of Jökulsárlón.
The image was shot during my first (of 2) 'Land of Ice' 2013 workshop- the glacier beach is one of its main features.

If you wish to visit and shoot these awesome locations under my dedicated guidance, please check out my upcoming 'Land of Ice' (south Iceland) and 'Winter Paradise' (northern Iceland) photography workshops next January!

You're welcome to follow me on my facebook page, where you can get a first look at my images, as well as get all the info about my work, photo tours and other news.

Another wonderful September morning, when the light and haze enchant the forest. Taken near Laage Vuursche/The Netherlands. The beech-trees are still so very green that autumn seems far away, but that is just a matter of a month or so now. With more hazy mornings to come!

Hello all!
This is a picture I took on a chilly Saturday morning at the rapids of Koiteli in the river Kiiminkijoki about 25 kms from Oulu, Finland. The weather here has been strange lately, one day we get 10cms of snoe and then it melts away the next day. I hope this snow stays longer ;)

It looks like this because of white balance settings in the camera. Low angle, long exposure from over my backpack on the snow. Slightly HDR-ed to bring out the highlights in the foreground
