The rain was beating down on the pavement, drenching the young girl. Her hands wrapped tightly around a bag, she knocked on the familiar door. She'd been coming there everyday, for hours at a time, for 3 months - just to sit and talk with the tall man and his pets. But, the day prior, she had told him of her minor crush. She said that she'd thought she'd felt love and affection for him.
It brought her to tears when he replied that he didn't understand what love was.
She left in a weeping mess, not really sure why she was upset. She came back the next day though, after thinking a long while. She'd went down to the grocery, and was the first there to purchase a small cake in which she'd asked the baker to inscribe "I love you" in tender cursive on the top. She didn't know why, but she felt it would convey her feelings more easily as she attempted to confront the Chinese man the day after her fit.
