Like it has to be by the anime, it has to be by the manga, or else it's "bad" and they don't like it. And if they don't like it, it means it's not "canon".
One simply cannot say anything more ignorant and naive such as the fandom "sucks" just because people don't follow it by your own little book.
It doesn't matter how ridiculous you think someone's character is, it doesn't matter how they alter your precious canon storyline or characters. It's all your opinion, and it's just another opinion that doesn't even matter.
People should do what they like, not walk on eggshells because "higher-ups" like these people think they have say in what is right or wrong.
