Stock and Resources UpdatesLETS TALK ABOUT STOCK "REQUESTS"More Like This
Every year we get excited, eager, passionate new stock providers entering our small but growing community, and every year these new stock models in particular get targeted by a small group of "requesters" Those of us who have been on the site for more than a few years recognise the types of "requests" I'm talking about and know to absolutely avoid them at all costs, but its something that I've seen more and more regularly over the last few months, and its definitely a concern.
There are standard "pose requests" that are NOT requested for the "artist" to work from. They are simply asking you to take photos of yourself in provocative poses so they can get off to your stock.
Firstly - please keep in mind that the images you are providing to artists are STOCK ART - they are first and foremost designed to provide artists with useable, useful references, either for traditional art, or digital art or whatever media they choose to create

Att Authors - How to pick a cover artistWhen it comes to choosing a suitable candidate for designing the cover for your book, there a few things to take into consideration which are usually over looked. As a cover artist myself, I have gone through many trial and errors in the process of working alongside an author in designing their cover. Little things that can frustrate both parties and lead to an uncomfortable working relationship. I thought of writing this to maybe help some people create better working environments for each other.More Like This
Envisioning your cover
The first responsibility lies with the author. You need to have at least a vague picture in mind of what you would like your cover to look like. I have had many authors hire me and when it comes to the brief about what they want for the cover, they just go 'Oh I trust your artistic opinions. Let's see what you come up with'. Then following my own instinct, I go on creating MY idea of what the cover should look like, not having much to go o

How to become better at art? How to gain necessary skill and how to stay motivated and inspired?
There are no right, or wrong answers to these questions, as we all are different and we have our own creative journeys - but here are some of my thoughts about the topic and I hope that they might be helpful.
1. Make art with your heart
Make the art that you enjoy to create. Make what resonates with you, put your heart in it (not literally) and it will show through your artworks.
2. Be consistent
Commit to yourself. Do something daily, even if it's just a sketch. Perhaps, do a study every morning or make speedpaintings. You may not see the progress at first, but you shouldn't get discouraged by that. Not every single one of your artworks has to be a masterpiece and it's totally okay to have a bad drawing every once
Why advertising ain't evilOne of the things I mentioned in my journal about social interaction was that you should only watch a person on DeviantArt when you were genuinely interested. While that states the obvious, the statement sort of backlashed on me, and many people called me a hypocrite for saying the above thing, because I've been advertising my profile at dAhub and apparently that's one of those things you shouldn't do.More Like This
However, I wouldn't be me if I didn't think of this as bullshit.
I've been calling this whole "marketing is evil" statement on DA utter nonsense before, and I will do it again. Because it actually is. It makes completely no sense to be on a website with so many artists that want to sell their art/commissions/adoptables for a reasonable price. Yet when anyone doe

Nick's Birthday Tribute!Whether you knew him well, or were just an acquaintance, it did not matter, at least to him it didn't, as he treated everyone with the same love and respect. There is no doubt, that he touched the lives of many, a fact he was always surprised about. It humbled him, and he was truly grateful for the friends he has met here.More Like This
It is that rarest of people, who could reach over mountains and oceans and touch all of our hearts. From every corner of the globe, to every walk of life, no matter your ethnic background, your political or religious views, no matter the color of your skin, or even if you spoke English, it did not matter to him, as he considered you all friends, and many, a part of his family.
He was your confidant, your mentor, your biggest supporter, your shoulder to cry on, your voice of reason and logic, and your cherished friend. He was all of those, to all of you, a person you could always count on, to always be there. He would listen to all of you, with
Special Birthday Seniority AnnouncementMore Like This
This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after Senior Member accolade -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endeavors, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the

You asked for more statistics! As you can see, at times there may be more tickets solved than were reported, and vice versa. This can be due to a high number of tickets concerning a high priority, which may have resulted in a small backlog developing in a lesser priority area. I think it's also fair to mention that during this reporting period a number of Comm Ops staff have been out on vacation, and we have also assisted the Retail Department in day to day tasks.
In the Past Month we have received ;

2,065 General Help Tickets

PE: Memes[deviantART related]More Like This
The word "meme" was coined by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, as an attempt to explain the way cultural information spreads Source: Wikipedia
A meme is a "thing" (let's call it thing until we have really know what it is) that spreads itself from person to person. Originally it was related to cultural phenomena, but these days we also have the internet memes.
These are pictures, videos, captions, hashtags and anything else that is meant to be forwarded, so that a lot of people are going to see them. Everything that is trendy, that does represent a certain generation does fit to be a meme. May it be that famous number '42', certain phrases used in movies, the grumpy cat, Nicolas Cage... - the list would be endless.
While doing a bit of research someone compared it with a flu. One starts with it and everyone else will get affected. But in a good way!
For deviantART these are usually art
PE: Profile Designing with CSS[deviantART related]More Like This
Want to learn how to make your page not just nice or pretty, but spectacular, unique, and all-around awesome? This article covers the newest stage in the evolution of profile design: Profile CSS.
Please keep in mind that this article is only for Premium Members who are not beginners to profile design. If this is your first time trying your hand at customizing your profile page, you'll probably find the following articles more helpful than this one.
Why use CSS?
Although setting up and learning to code CSS for your profile can be a hassle, there are a great deal of benefits to using CSS instead of only HTML:
Fonts: CSS allows for almost complete control over font styles, colors, and sizes (only limitation is that fonts must be Web Safe fonts or Google Fonts). HTML on DA is limited to only a certain n

PE: Interview Custom Widgets[deviantART related]More Like This
Since it is known that you can customize your custom widgets, it has become a new trend within deviantART. While it has its limitations, deviants - old and new - have been very creative to make the most out of it though. A lot of people offer resources for others to use and today I have asked three of them to answer a few questions for us!
Big thanks to SimplySilent, CypherVisor & UszatyArbuz for taking the time to answer my questions.
To let people know, who you are, please introduce yourself with a few words. Beside the custom resources thing, how do you spent your time on deviantART?
Hi there! I'm SimplySilent, and I spend most of my time on dA either messing with CSS or managing my group Rising-Artists. I also enjoy helping out at some of my other groups, randomly chatting with deviants, and writing tutorials.
Hey there folks! Look Boogieman is here! Haha… Sorry, I guess that w
PE: Custom Widgets[deviantART related]More Like This
While deviants always have been able to customize their profile a bit more with the help of stamps, buttons, dividers and other fancy graphics, it is also possible to style the widgets via HTML & CSS.
But you can just work with what is already part of the deviantART website code only. You can't add new code like you would do at your journals. This means you are always limited with what you can do and don't have full control over the elements and how they appear.
The simpliest way of customizing your widgets would be by adding a background. As these can't be a pattern that get repeated on their own, the background images need to cover any possible width and height. If you do your own images you can adjust the height to what is needed, to avoid that the overall size gets too big, though.

Did You Know - RandomRandomMore Like This
We usually have selected groups and people we watch based on the art they upload and how else they interact on deviantART. That means we mostly get to see art, journals and other things in our message center that will most likely interest us.
It also means we could miss a lot of other things. But sometimes it can be useful to be able to see new art or deviants, without having any set criteria. And that's why we have the random feature at deviantART.
You have that in your deviantART menu (when you click that little arrow next to the dA logo at the top) and it gives you three possibilities of going random.
It doesn't matter if a deviant is new or old, popular or unknown. Anyone who recently have been active (even their profile might not show this) could show up here, once you will choose that option.
Clicking the link will directly take you to a deviants page. And hopefull

The longer you stay on deviantART and the more people you get to know, the more the wish to meet those people will grow.
Especially when people live close to you or when you are living in an area that is well populated it can be arranged easily to get to know some fellow deviants in real life as well. When it comes to meet deviants who live in a different country, maybe even a different continent it will be more of a challenge. But still not impossible.
If you just meet with a few other deviants it usually doesn't require much planning. You pick a date, a time and a place. If you are all from the same area, it won't require much preparation at all. You are all familiar with the region, you speak the same language and you know the locations there.
The bigger the meet will be and the more people will attend (especially if they are from different countries), this will be much mo

simply makes it that much more tempting;
forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest, as the saying goes.
But what of oppression? What taste would that fruit have,
riddled with hatred and malevolence?
Would thorns sprout from it's surface, would the juice taste sour?
Would eyes water as the foulness of it burned our throats, and caused us to weep?
Our world is far from perfect, lights doused
by the hopeless tears of those whose suffering
God turned a blind eye to. Wealth equals power equals the ability to have your mistakes overlooked, swept under the rug so silently.
But when a young teen is murdered because of the color of his skin, when a young girl is raped because of her clothing choice, when a loving couple is denied their right to marriage because of their sex, where is the justice then?
