Hyunseung sighed for the millionth time that day. He looked down at the cup of coffee on the table and couldn't suppress another sigh. He looked out the window of the small coffee shop and watched as people walked by, wind rippling their coats into the air. His face was emotionless, a little pain etched across his brow, as he daintily picked up his coffee and took a sip. He felt the bitterness of the black drink on his tongue as it slid down his throat. He didn't want to drink another espresso, since that happened.
It had been two weeks since he had gone to Doojoon's party. Two weeks since he had slept with a complete stranger. Junhyung. Two weeks since he had said a word to the man, two weeks since he had even seen him. He was honestly surprised when the other man hadn't bothered to contact him. Hyunseung trusted his gut and thought Junhyung was a good guy, but he was obviously wrong. Pulled away from his vision on the streets, Hyunseung reached into his pocket to answer his vibrating phone.
"Hyunseung~ watcha up to?"
"Hello to you too, Yoseob."
"Hi! Where are you? I'm bored and I wanna play!"
Hyunseung sighed. "You know, sometimes you really sound like a little kid? It can get a little creepy when you say you wanna play Monopoly then go grind up against Doojoon like a slut."
"Sorry? Not my fault Doojoon likes it when I--"
"Okay! Don't really want to know Doojoon's kinks. What do you want?" He quietly yelled into his phone so the other customers around him wouldn't hear.
"I wanna play! Can I come over to your place and hangout? Ooh! I wanna play on your Wii, Doojoon still hasn't bought me one."
Hyunseung smirked at his spoiled friend. "I'm not at home right now and I don't know when I'll be back. I have a job interview, but guess who it's with!"
"Who? Who?" He sounded like an excited owl.
"Kiki's boyfriend! He works for his father's company and is going to be doing my interview. Can you believe my luck?"
"That's awesome! I bet Kwangie can help you get the job. You know, nflu ience Dongwoon to just give you the job." Hyunseung could hear the playfulness and suggestiveness in Yoseob's voice.
"You're terrible. I want to get the job fairly, not by letting my friend sex up the interviewer."
"I'm sure neither of them would mind." He said in a sing-song voice.
"Ha, I have to agree with you on that, but I'm still doing it fair and square. Wait- what time is it?" He said into the receiver as he looked around the shop for a clock, which he didn't find.
"Uhh, ten till four. Why?"
"Shit! I'll talk to you later, Seob!" Hyunseung quickly said before snapping his phone shut and pushing his chair back, wooden legs scraping on the tile floor. He left his coffee on the table as he grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder. He rushed out the door, mumbling to himself about being late as people curiously glanced at him. He ignored the looks he got as he quickly walked down the sidewalk with wide strides.
After ten minutes of running in the streets, he collapsed through a doorway into an office building. He didn't really want this job, but he needed money to pay for his apartment and it was the only place hiring. He quickly collected himself as he saw someone walk through the door ahead of him.
"Yes." He said with a low bow. "Are you Mr. Son?"
Hyunseung was surprised as he heard a deep laugh vibrate from the man's throat. "Hyunseung, call me Dongwoon. My boyfriend is one of your friends, but don't worry, he has nothing to do with this interview." Dongwoon added in as an afterthought.
"Oh, uh, okay. . .Dongwoon--" He stopped talking as he glanced behind Dongwoon to the door he just came out of. A certain familiar man was standing there in a crisp suit.
"Oh! Junhyung, you can go. And don't worry, you definitely got the job." Dongwoon said as he turned around to give Junhyung a goodbye handshake and a reassuring smile.
"Thanks. When should I start?" The deep voice was all too familiar for Hyunseung as he heard his blood rushing towards his ears.
"Might as well get a head start and come by tomorrow. See you then." Junhyung gave a small bow before making his way through the exit. As he passed Hyunseung, they made eye contact. Hyunseung didn't ignore the sly smirk playing on the brunette's lips.
"Hyunseung? Come into my office, interview time." Dongwoon said as he went through his door, not looking back to see if Hyunseung was following.
"Oh, right." He uttered before following, mind not on the job but on something, someone, else.
"Pretty impressive. Can't wait for you to start tomorrow." Dongwoon said in his naturally deep voice as he gave Hyunseung a handshake.
"Neither can I." Lies. After seeing Junhyung, he felt like he already wanted to quit the job. The past two weeks he thought he would love to see the attractive man again, but now that he was going to be working with him all he wanted to do was crawl into a hole.
Hyunseung turned and walked out the door and was about to make his way home when an arm grabbed his wrist. He froze as he heard the familiar voice. "Hey."
Instinctively he pulled his wrist from the man's grasp and started walking away. He stopped for a second when he heard a whisper behind him. "I was fired. Didn't lock the door when I picked you up, cafe got robbed that night."
Hyunseung quickly strode away as he tried to ignore the guilt. Junhyung was fired? Because of him? It made sense as to why he got a job at the office. It didn't pay much, but probably better than what the café was giving him. Hyunseung sighed as he slowed his pace, gripping the strap of his bag on his shoulder. He felt guilty even though Junhyung was just a stranger he had a one night stand with. But he couldn't figure out why he felt guilty. They were strangers, you usually don't feel guilty for strangers.
Hyunseung scowled down at the ground as his feet flashed before his eyes. Who cares if Junhyung was fired? It was his fault for inviting himself to the damn party, if he hadn't done that he wouldn't have left the door unlocked which wouldn't have led to a robbery. For some reason Hyunseung wasn't convinced by his thoughts.
"Oh! Jiyong! What are you doing here?" Hyunseung was standing outside his apartment door as his old friend came walking through the hall.
"Hey Seungie! I was actually passing by and decided to come see you. Are you just getting in?" Jiyong smiled as he talked, pulling the younger into a hug.
"Yeah actually, I just got back from my job interview."
"How'd it go?"
Hyunseung couldn't suppress the smile creeping across his face. "I got the job."
"Really?! Congratulations!" Jiyong exclaimed before bring Hyunseung into a bone-crushing hug. He released him after realizing Hyunseung couldn't breath. "We should celebrate."
"What? No, we don't have to. Anyway, it's just a simple office job, nothing special."
"No, we're celebrating. When's your first day?" Hyunseung could sense the command in his voice that meant no backtalk.
"Tomorrow." He said with a sigh, already knowing they were going to a club or bar to get drunk. That was Jiyong's way of celebrating.
"Great! Text me the address of the office later so I can pick you up. I gotta go right now, see you tomorrow." Jiyong said excitedly before skittering down the hall. Hyunseung sighed as he unlocked the door to his apartment. It would be a good way to get his mind off Junhyung, since he kept drifting off into thoughts about the other man. As he closed the door behind him, he nodded to himself while thinking of how hammered he was going to get.
Hyunseung groaned as he slammed his hand down on the annoying alarm clock. "Fuck. . .let me sleep." He muttered as he turned onto his side away from the clock. A few seconds later he shot up, eyes wide. "Fuck! My job! I have a job now!" Hyunseung threw the covers off his body and stood on the cold floor. "Fuck, I have a job now." He groaned as he realized he couldn't sleep in anymore and lay in his warm bed all day. A mixture of another groan and a sigh escaped his lips as he wobbled inside his bathroom, immediately turning on his shower to the hottest setting as he felt a cold chill run down his bare back.
After a refreshing shower, Hyunseung dressed himself for his first day of work. He wore suit pants and a white button shirt with a pinstripe vest over it. He looked office casual.
He grabbed his bag, phone, and keys before he walked out the door. He didn't have enough money for a car and he hated public transportation, so he walked everywhere he went. The wind was cold, easily going through the sheer shirt and brushing up against his skin. He shivered as he walked across the ground, mind focused on Junhyung. Would they have to work together? Would they have to sit together? Would they have to present together? Would they even see each other? Or would they never see each other, not even have the same lunch hour? The questions made Hyunseung's mind spin as he stopped to wait for traffic to stop on the cross-walk.
He walked with the other people across the road, one of many people who were working that day. Although it's not very strange to find a group of people walking to work on a Thursday. Hyunseung sucked in his breath as his eyes spotted his office building. As he stopped outside the building he made note of the exact address to text to Jiyong later on.
He tried to enter the building with confidence, but it all crumbled down when he spotted Junhyung. Earlier in the week, Hyunseung wanted to see the man, talk to him. Now he just wanted to leave, act the man never existed. Act like that night never existed.
He quickly made his way toward the elevator, past Junhyung and the man he was talking to. As the doors closed they made eye contact, causing Hyunsung's blood to freeze. He made a silent promise to himself to not pay any attention at all to the man, he was just a stranger who served him coffee in a small café. Nothing more than that.
As Hyunseung walked out of the elevator and towards his cubicle, a flash of black hair obstructed his vision before he was tackled into a tight hug. "Hyunseung! Why didn't you tell me you work here now?! Idiot!" Hyunseung rolled his eyes at the older man. "Seunghyun, I didn't tell you because I knew you would do this. I was hoping I could work here for a few years and go every day without you noticing me, what with us having cubicles right next to each other." He commented with a straight face. The arms around him didn't let up.
"What?" Hyunseung freed one of his arms enough to hit the older man in the back of the head for his stupidity. "You're the idiot, not me." The arms around him released him so he could collapse onto his chair. "Man, I can never get used to your hugs." Hyunseung mumbled under his breath about his hugs being worse than Jiyong's as he rubbed his arm.
"Hey, you need to go talk to Dongwoon about what you're going to work on." Seunghyun said as he sat in his own chair.
"Where's his office?" Hyunseung said as he stood up.
"Down the hall, to the left." Hyunseung nodded as his feet started moving him towards his destination. He walked down the hall and was about to knock on the door when it opened to reveal a startled face. "Oh? Hyunseung!" Another bone-crushing hug. "You work here now? Awesome! Oh- you probably want to talk to Dongwoon. See you later." Hyunseung shook his head at Daesung before entering the room.
"Dongwoon?" He unconsciously got quieter as he entered the dark room, lights off and blinds closed.
"Hey Hyunseung, oh, don't think much of the darkness, it's easier to work in for me." Hyunseung just nodded his head as the other man read his thoughts. "I presume you want your work? Here, just simple reporting and making corrections, stuff like that." Hyunseung took the folder and bowed before leaving the room. He walked back down the hall and into the main office towards his cubicle. He wasn't aware of how many of his friends worked here, at least he wouldn't get bored and lonely.
Which a sigh he sat on his cushy chair and opened the folder to take some papers out and start his first day of work. He was to read a co-workers report and correct any invalid data, easy enough. He opened the file on his desktop on the computer screen and was flooded with words and pages. Fifty-six pages, single-spaced, size ten font. He groaned before he started reading the report.
After reading for an hour he decided to take a break so his eyes wouldn't fall out of his skull from staring at the screen for so long. He decided to text Jiyong the address of the building so he could pick him up at the end of the day without getting lost. He whipped out his phone and starting typing when the light from overhead was blocked. He raised a brow as he looked up at the figure blocking his light. "Seunghyun?"
"Just wanted to tell you if Dongwoon sees you on your personal phone he'll have your head. The only place we can go on our phones is in the break room."
"Oh, thanks." Hyunseung as he raised from his seat and began walking towards the hall. He assumed the door with the words 'Break Room' was where he should be. He opened the door and was greeted with couches and a table of coffee and bagels and donuts. He immediately zeroed in on a chocolate sprinkle donut as he continued to type of his message. He collapsed onto one of the leather couches and stuffed the donut in his mouth so he could type with both hands. He held the donut between his teeth until he heard the door open and close. Looking up, his eyes widened and mouth opened, causing the donut to fall in his lap.
"Hyunseung. . ."
"What the hell do you want?" He tried his best to put as much venom in his voice as possible.
"Just wanted to talk." Junhyung mumbled as he inched closer to the couch.
"Oh, really? You sure you don't want to seduce me into bed?" He scoffed at his own words.
"You were just as willing as I was, hell, you were fucking begging me to ram you into the mattress." Hyunseung felt his cheeks get hot as he remembered the words that came from his mouth that night. He knew Junhyung was right, but he didn't admit it.
"Fuck off, okay? Just because we work in the same office now doesn't mean we're going to have fun every night." He said as he stood up and walked around the man.
"So you admit you had fun?" Hyunseung slammed the door behind him as he cursed himself for slipping that little bit of information out.
He wasn't sure if his ears were deceiving him, but he was sure he hurt a faint laugh from inside the closed door.
Hyunseung was standing outside the door of the office building when a red car screeched to a stop in from of the building. Jiyong stepped out in his flashiest clothes, a pink leather jacket with spikes adoring the collar. "Hyunseung! Ready to go get wasted out of your mind?" Hyunseung heard the building door open as he was grabbed in a tight hug from Jiyong. He recuperated the action, arms tight around his back as he absentmindedly played with the hair on the nape of Jiyong's neck. When they let go of each other Hyunseung glanced to the side to see Junhyung staring, eyes wide and mouth slightly open in shock. "Come on Seung." Jiyong said with a smile as he led Hyunseung to the passenger door by their enlaced fingers. He opened the door for Hyunseung and winked before kissing him on the top of the head. As he closed the door, Hyunseung saw from his peripheral vision Junhyung looking incredibly pissed.
Without him knowing the car pulled away from the curb. "I could see the way he looked at you. Who is he?" Jiyong's voice was serious, but Hyunseung couldn't ignore the playfulness in it.
"Just a co-worker." Jiyong didn't respond as he drove down the road with his eyes focused on the cars around him. Hyunseung stared ahead of him, extremely confused about Junhyung. He didn't want to think about it, all he wanted was to get shit-faced and forget the day even happened.
Hyunseung felt as though hammers were ramming nails into his skull as his alarm clock sounded the next morning. Even when he sighed the faint sound of his breath escaping his lips was loud enough to make his skull feel like splitting in half. This was always the time when he regrets drinking, but during the actual process of downing as much alcohol as he can, he enjoys drinking very much. He's the type of drunk who can control themselves while under the influence, though he can barely remember the next day. He's been told all he does when he's drunk is sit in a corner and contemplate things like: why water is water or if he tries hard enough he can make his hand float in mid air. He was a stupid, quiet drunk.
As Hyunseung sat up in his bed, waves of nausea hit him and in a flash he was in his bathroom, head in the toilet puking his guts out.
He sighed as he flushed everything that was in his stomach down the toilet. He didn't want to go to work, and it was only his second day, which made his sigh even more. He stepped into his shower and shredded his clothes off before turning on the water to ice cold. It helped in waking him up, jolting him from his sleepy nauseous state. After his freezing cold shower he did his hair and got ready just like the day before, although he went much slower so he wouldn't die from his headache.
As he stepped outside of his apartment building he felt chills run down his spine from the cold. He mumbled to himself before starting his trek down the sidewalk. As he passed by the familiar Café, he couldn't stop himself from wandering inside and standing at the counter.
"Double shot espresso, please." He muttered before pulling out his money. "For here or to go?" Asked the man behind the counter, who Hyunseung noted was much different than Junhyung.
"To go." With a nod the man hobbled over to the coffee machine and prepared Hyunseung's drink in a styrofoam cup. The man and Hyunseung exchanged money for coffee with a slight nod before he headed out, sipping his coffee. All he tasted was Junhyung as the liquid flowed down his throat, reminding him of the day he wanted to forget. Then again, maybe he didn't want to forget. He didn't want to forget the way Junhyung touched him, the way Junhyung kissed him, the way Junhyung caressed him. The way Junhyung glared at him when he hugged Jiyong.
It had to be too good to be true, right? Junhyung couldn't actually. . .? Did he? Was it possible that Junhyung, the man he had a one-night stand with, had feelings for him? It was the only way Hyunseung could make sense of the look he received from Junhyung the other day.
Hyunseung stopped thinking about it as he walked through the office door, his head hurt enough as it is.
"Hyunseung! I heard you went out with Jiyong last night? Does your head hurt?" Hyunseung grinned at how fast things spread. "Yeah, we went drinking. And yes my head hurts like a bitch, so don't yell."
Seunghyun nodded before slinging an arm around Hyunseung's shoulders as they stepped into the elevator. They stood in a comfortable silence as they waited to reach their floor. As they heard the ding signaling they arrived at the proper floor, they left the elevator and walked towards their cubicles. They received a few strange looks from people who didn't know they were friends because of the arm around Hyunseung's shoulders.
"I'm going to the break room for a donut first, you wanna come?" Hyunseung said as his stomach growled telling him coffee is not a suitable breakfast.
"Sure, why not." Seunghyun muttered as he raised his shoulders, signaling Hyunseung he would rather stuff his face with donuts than do work. They walked to the room, Seunghyun's arm not leaving the younger man's shoulders. They opened the door to find no one inside except a tray full of donuts. Hyunseung dove on jelly-filled covered in white powder while Seunghyun grabbed a plain. He sat down on the couch and patted his leg while looking up at Hyunseung. With a shrug of his shoulders he sat on the provided lap, for he was used to the intimate friendship he and his friends shared.
They ate their donuts in silence until Seunghyun started giggling. "What?" Hyunseung asked as he tore his attention away from the pastry in his hand.
"You have powder all over your mouth." Hyunseung just scowled down at him before taking another bite. Seunghyun laughed harder. "Now you have jelly on the corner of your mouth. I'll get it." The second he put his finger against Hyunseung's face to wipe off the jelly, the door to the break room opened to reveal a surprised Junhyung. "Uh. . ."
Seunghyun acted normal as he took the jelly from his finger and licked it off before wrapping his arm around Hyunseung's waist. "What's up?" He had a feeling from the way the guy stared at Hyunseung they knew each other somehow and certain feelings were involved.
"N-nothing." He mumbled in reply as he backed out of the door, confusion on his face. He thought to himself: Hyunseung was with that one guy the other day, now he's with someone else? Junhyung couldn't stop the pain he felt in his chest from thinking of how easily Hyunseung tossed him aside. It's true he left him after sleeping with him, but he was scared for Hyunseung's sake. Junhyung didn't want to hurt him, so he left without intention of seeing him again. But now that they were together again, he was going to claim Hyunseung as his.
He stopped in his steps as he realized what he should do. He spun in place as he turned around and walked back down the hall. He slammed open the break room's door to reveal Hyunseung laughing at whatever Seunghyun had said. He stormed into the room with a determined expression on his face before grabbing Hyunseung's hand and dragging him out of the room. Hyunseung squeaked in surprise at the action but followed the man down the hall and into a. . .closet?
"Hyunseung." Junhyung said as he closed the door behind them and turned on the light. He noticed the powder covering the other man's face.
"What?" Hyunseung scowled. Junhyung laughed, "Now you look even more like a deer with your mouth all white." Hyunseung blushed at the comment, remembering the first time he said something about him looking like a deer. "Why did you bring me in here? I have work to do." He tried to move closer to the door, but Junhyung grabbed the back of his neck and smashed their lips together. It surprisingly wasn't forceful, Hyunseung noted, as he felt the passion through the way Junhyung's lips moved against his.
They withdrew from each other, out of breath with smiles plastered across their faces. "How about a double shot espresso?" Hyunseung just nodded as he pulled Junhyung closer.
