From a few hundred feet away, we would have been nearly invisible I think, to the naked eye at least. Invisible for me is probably a bit different than invisible for you, but I use a simple definition for your sake here. After all, to be truly unperceived is almost akin to not being; it takes an awful lot of practice to not be, you know, and I like to think I've had my fair share of practice. But from a few hundred feet away, I doubt you could have seen me, for the thermals distorted the air and the light that past through it warped and warbled under the mortal gaze of three vast and foreboding red suns.
Perhaps, some many miles away, the mirage might have shown you the strange scene. Had you seen it, I doubt your sanity would have been coherent enough to appreciate the surrealist scene before you; where I was was almost six hundred miles from the nearest outpost of humanity. The GapsMuch as the Victorians would never have envisioned the coming of the Martians, none outside of the Timecasters had any notion of what was impending; and the Flux knew this. They planned accordingly, for this was a war of proxies. In their eyes, they imagined that the Temporians were much as they were; a parasite, a symbiote attached to a larger entity. So as the Immortal Empire hosted the Ascendancy, the logic went, so worked the Temporians through the Dark City Imperium. In their eyes, this was akin to a brush war, though a brush war that was rapidly escalating into something else. With their name spreading in the galactic far east, the Ascendancy felt an increasing calling to a more compelling sort of action; it was only through the petitions of Dassus, who himself was urged on by the hopes and fears of the Union of World’s emperor, that had prevented Dorin from conducting a suicidal charge of extermination across an unaware galaxy.More Like This

It would raise far more questions than she'd appreciate.

As I willed the mask to engage, I felt a certain sense of apprehension. Unlike Nagaetros’ brain (which was closer to the size of a kitchen appliance than a grapefruit), the Sanctioned was human…more or less. Mental cohabitation damages neural connections, and for humanoid mammals that begins to become problematic after ninety seconds or so, assuming you’re not in there to do harm. With Nageotros, the whole affair had been over in no more than five minutes.

One convenient thing remained: my pursuers moved by night. At the time, I wondered if this was simply for the sake of keeping me alive, or if it was truly a restriction on their part. That being said, if it was only a restriction, it was one that they kept quite strictly to. They moved only by night. I had the daylight hours to recover and prepare for what came with sundown. Then I would run and fight, and run. There was much running then.
However they were tracking me wasn’t my timeline. It was purely impossible, but I was being tracked regardless. There were places I could go, yes. I had many, many places to run. But as long as I was running, my effectiveness in pursuing the facts and figures of my quarry’s life would be dramatically reduced. This was probably his goal, in a sense
An Oblique InitiationThe lady came out of the dark with a peculiar look of determination in her eyes. Those were the first thing I remembered, her eyes. They had a bit of a burning look to them, but not in the sulfur and brimstone variety that most people with burning eyes tend to.
