Also known as Daily Deviation. It is a daily feature given since the beginning of deviantART to showcase a few selected pieces. For 24 hours it will be seen at the footer or at the DD page. Afterwards it will vanish among the older DD pages. It will be forgotten instantly after those 24h and only gets a bit attention when CVs do their monthly DD feature again or when someone stumbles across them by accident.
Artworks featured as a DD can be easily recognized by that little red heart framed by a golden background below the actual deviation. It often comes together with comments like "Congratulations for the DD".
DDs can not be a journal, a WIP or any artwork located at the 'Scraps' category.

"Will you be my friend?" is one those questions I get the most.
It's also one the questions I have to answer with a negative answer the most, because I don't like lying to people.
Like I've told in some of my earlier journals, my life didn't overflow with friendship nor popularity when I was younger. It was quite the contrary. I wasn't anything near popular, to the point that most people didn't even want to have anything to do with me. As the kid that got bullied, the few that dared to get close to me, more or less put their social status in the group at stake by even talking to me. And as a result, I guess I valued their friendship a lot. After all; I knew what they risked.
Coming from that sort of situation, friendship has always been a very important but at the same time mysterious matter to me. Something not be

Up until then I had been using various art forums such as wcreplays.com, animex.com, sijun.com and cgsociety.org so the discovery of a portfolio website was a pretty cool thing.
I started posting on here and got moderate attention, I had been drawing for a long time at that point so my art was in a state where it was at least interesting to look at. If anything it was a fantastic place to get inspiration and look at art from amazingly talented artists.
It wasn't until I decided to color the line-art for the following piece that everything really started.

Without deviantArt I'm not sure I'd be where I am today, with just enough internet-cred to make friends with all the cool artists and get enough money out of my hand and to continue to put food in my mouth... but I've gone from idly doodling my characters (who got to go in The Meek 4 years later) and drawing reptiles/ dreaming of being an independent artist, to doing Avatar fanart, making tutorials and finally doing paid art for soulless corporations. Designed to showcase a variety of content — including editorial pieces, Journals, contests, and even deviants new to the site, the Today page reflects the undercurrent of what's happening now — both online and off.
“The new Today page is impressive. It's certainly much more dynamic and engaging now than it ever was.” —thetaoofchaos

The Artist’s Toolkit
Just happy to be at my easel painting
Whether they be a baker, painter, or candlestick maker, every artisan has their own set of tools.
The strategic slice of a chef’s knife, the perfectly placed stroke of a painter’s brush, the forensic eye of a camera lens, each bends to the will of their master. But the artist must first learn to tame each of their tools before they will do their bidding.

Hello I'm here to talk to you about Pens Specifically, Micron Pens, Prismacolor Pens and Copic Multiliner Pens. I'm going to go over the pros and cons of each type and then talk a little bit about technique.
Sakura Micron Pens seem to be one the most popular go-to pens for traditional artists. They retail at about $3.50-$4.00 Canadian, less if you can hit Michael's with a 40% of coupon. They come in a variety of sizes from 0.05mm to 1mm. They also come in brush tip. They are available in black, light blue, dark blue, sepia, orange, yellow, red, pink, purple and green. They are archival ink and acid free. The ink is supposed to be waterproof and fade proof... but that's where it falls down.
Water based markers will smudge the pen and alcohol based markers can leach some of the colour from the pen ink as well. If you pencil your work and then go over it in

No other plant looks, feels or tastes like a mushroom. They can bloom after a rainstorm and fill up a meadow in the woods that was empty the day before. They are a delight in the eye of the epicurean, but though tiny and fragile, strike terror in the hearts of non–woodsmen like me. Identified properly, they are a marvelous salad. Misidentified, they can mean sudden death. Such tiny, pretty forest dwellers, but with power over even a starving man. Such is a mushroom.

Hey there, my name is Anne—some people also call me CSS fairy - and I'm just a glitter spreading, CSS loving random person from Germany. DeviantART is part of my life since 9 years already. While I started with traditional and digital art, I am now doing kind of everything. I love baking, crafting (with plywood for example), designing and just giving new things a try in general. I am a communication designer, who just enjoys being creative in all ways possible.

ART HISTORY PROJECT: J B C COROTMore Like This
If ever there was an artist of whom it may definitively be said:
“They truly lived for their art!”,
It may be said of Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot.
Many, without doubt, will, justifiably in most cases, cite many another artist of whom this may be said.... but!, ...undeniably, in most cases also , there was an inherent or imposed struggle against ones parents, society, morality, religion, racism, sexism, or many another constraint to be fought against..., in order to, at last, release the potential of the artist within. In many cases there was also financial constraints.... “the garret life of the starving artist” is so well-known a cliche, as to have become almost ridiculous... if not: ridiculed. Although it’s true that Corot was at the sharp end of his fathers disapprobation, it was never so severe that it deflected Corot from his purpose which was to paint landscapes
Golden Age of IllustrationArt History WeekMore Like This
The 19th century marks a huge technology development, with printing techniques improving enough to make newspapers and books a truly mass-popular medium. Along with that, there appeared new opportunities for the illustrators. In the second half of the 19th century, the popularity of illustrated books and magazines reached the highest level recorded by that time and it eventually became the foundation to border the official beginning of the Golden Age of Illustration's timespan: 1880's. Formally it lasted until 1910's-1920's, with variations between Europe and North America.
The core illustrators lived a long time after this period and continued creating pictures in their style - which is defined as typical for the Golden Age. However, new styles and the slow decrease of popularity of book and newspaper illustrations (supported by the rising popularity of photography) after the World War determined the formal end of this age. The European illustrators were influenced mo

There are a few pretty important things to consider before publicly announcing you're opening commissions:
1. payment method. The deviantart commission widget takes 20% of your profit, but then again more deviants have points so you're likely to get 20% more customers like that. But don't forget there are people who have paypal and don't feel like dealing with points so if you decide to open commissions through deviantart, don't let that be the ONLY payment method.
Paypal is the most common payment method used online and i strongly recommend it. Make a paypal account, connect it to a card and you're ready. But don't forget paypal has a limit of $3000 per year withdrawal. So if you're serious about drawing art for a living and you

Recent News Surrounding Drawponies and ResponseHello everypony,More Like This
I hope you are all enjoying the new season! Today's episode promises to be truly exciting (not the least for the reason that Rainbow Dash is my favorite pony).
I would like to take this moment to talk about the recent news surrounding drawponies and allegationsof him having traced some of his art. A year ago or so, there was a debate within some of the groups I run about allowing traced images to be accepted or not. The questions were mostly surrounding vectors, which tend to have a high volume of show tracing. Tracing is something that helps artists develop artistically, and acts sort of like training wheels. Ultimately, this group (and others that I manage) decided that traced art is to be allowed, to help encourage further work from developing artists and to help them get feedback on their progress from those who see their submissions in this group.
However, the situa

I am sorta curious why they didn't just label them with FPS instead of using arbitrary numbers though? xD
Anywaaay! I was also researching common FPS speeds used in cartoons and it seems 24 FPS is pretty common BUT using a 2 frame method. It’s like this you double all your frames making it like 12 FPS unless it’s something that requires a lot of smooth panning like for scrolling backgrounds and things of that nature.
