In late 2010 I have started Project: Shiny Pokemon.
It will contain all 251 pokemon from New Pokedex in their shiny coloration.
At first thought the pokemon should have the same shiny colours as in orginal GSC sprites.
But few thoughs later I decided make them in they more recent shiny forms - just in case if I ever wanted to draw all 6xx pokemon.
The idea was to just sketch all of them. Though now I want put more effort in those drawing, keeping the simplicity of the original pictures at the same time. Some pictures were made long time ago, so they may look different than the newer ones. The signatures also may change between them.
Another recently revealed mega evolution. I simply couldn't not draw Mega Altaria, no way. I will probably try doing Megamence at some point to cheer me up. Its design still saddens me.
I was actually very happy to hear that Altaria got a mega evolution. It has always been a Pokemon people just tend to look down to. True, it isn’t as good as it could be but it always made me sad people usually just made fun of it and how it makes no sense it’s a dragon.
I think the mega design makes it slightly more dragon. Maybe it’s the size increase (now with 200% more fluff!) or that tail. It reminds me of Articuno, which is a legendary, which also gives Altaria a slightly more majestic appearance thus making it a bit easier to associate Altaria with something as majestic as dragons.
Sadly, some of that impression crumbles away with that stupid bath foam hat. I think Mega Altaria would’ve been much better without it. Or if it had been a different shape. The idea of having fluff on its head isn’t bad but maybe the shape could’ve indeed been better. It looks rather goofy as it is.
Also, Dragon/Fairy fits. I’m interested in seeing what this will do to Altaria. Pixilate sounds like a adecent ability considering Altaria does have access to a few cool Normal-type moves it seems to get some attack and sp attack boosts if I remember right. Hyper Voice will be most fitting.
The more I think about Mega Altaria the more I can't stop thinking about how fitting it would've been for Solveig. Typing and all. And Pixilate Hyper Voice. She would've been gorgeous.
Personally I'd interpret most of Mega Altaria's fluff as feathers similar of a bird of paradise. My headcanon about Altaria generating fluff still stands.
I had a lot of brushes downloaded that I wanted to try out as well as other things I experimented on. So this is a pretty experimental piece. I like how it turned out. I hope you like it, too!
In 1850 however, when a female West-Highland Terrier gave birth to a litter of Lillipups, people began to realize that Pokemon did come, in fact, from normal animals. This caused several theories to spring up until in 1976 the young Pokemon Professor Samuel Oak discovered a virus in one of his samples. First, he believed it to be a contamination, but then curiosity got the better of him. He noted a section in the virus’ DNA he found oddly familiar. In a sample of his Charizard’s DNA, he recognized the exact same section of viral DNA. This lead to a breakthrough in Pokemon research, explaining exactly where Pokemon came from: The ‘Pokerus’ Virus affects the reproductive organs, slipping its genetic information into its hosts gametes and changing the offspring to mutate into Pokemon.”
