Hello all, the following lessons are the brainchild of NyanQueen from Celtic-Art, and have been written by gra-te-agus-brioscai of Gaeilge-ar-DA, as a sort of rough introduction to the language, for those of us who aren’t lucky or privileged enough to have teachers or tutors at our nearby disposal.
In this first lesson, I’ll be covering all the very, very basics.
So to start with, there are a few different dialects of Irish, so the following rules will not be universal. I speak Ulster Irish, but where possible I will give the equivalent translations/pronunciations in Munster, Leinster and Connaught Irish.
Irish spelling and pronunciation is quite different from that of English. This does not make it hard however, in fact it is a lot easier to write and speak in Irish than in English once you’re used to it. The rules are generally simple and repetitive; however I’ll get to them later.
