TF: Old Soldier FIRST DRAFT Contest EntryTitle: Transformers: Old Soldier FIRST DRAFT Contest Entry
Universe: G1 (Pre-Earth)
Warnings: Violence, Non-canon character death
Author's Note: This is my (mostly) unedited first draft. The contest specified minimal editing, which was extremely difficult for me. While I don't think this is bad, it's not as refined as I'd normally post. In fact, there are two details which need work/editing. Hopefully, they're not as obvious to others as they are to me (since I'm super critical of my own work).
Smoke hung heavy over Praxus, obscuring optics and clogging vents. Here, the once proud city-state stood cracked and charred, covered in ash. The glorious crystals of the Helix Gardens, the pinnacle of Cybertronian art and beauty, lay shattered. Many of the civilians were gone, long since fled or dead. Those that remained had abandoned their civilian ways, forced into more militaristic roles.

Elizabeth Turner eyed her adversary with unwavering eyes. She tightened her lips, considering the upcoming struggle.
The pewter flatware piece lay, mocking her, underneath the royal blue settee. Elizabeth stroked the main obstacle between her and the rogue cutlery – her swollen stomach. Her unborn child chose that moment to stretch itself out. With an awkward grunt, Elizabeth straightened her back, trying to accommodate the babe's movement. Fear motivated him. Fear of death and pain, lingering, gnawing pain.
Not his own. He would have welcomed it, if he could have, if his ‘king’ would have allowed it. No, the pain and death he feared fell upon others while he watched, forced to witness the consequences of his actions. If he spoke out of turn, one of the slaves – his people – were brought before him and beaten until they fell unconscious. His people were proud and strong; the beatings could last hours. If he disobeyed, one (or two, or more) of his kind were hung outside his c

Huntington's takes away mentally first, which is why I've been so sick the past few months...I'm more tired than ever before. I am telling you this, because sadly it means I will have to give up the reigns on this club...I need less stress...and as much as I love being a part of it. I can't run it anymore. I am sorry to spread sad news into your day. I just ask for prayers and thoughts. I was hoping we could maybe even
Announcing the CRLiterature Book Club! Here at CRLiterature, we wanted to find a fun way to get the community reading -- and reading together. What better way is there than to have a new book to enjoy as a group every month?More Like This
How do you participate in Book Club? Here are your simple instructions:
1. Acquire the book.
2. Read the book.
3. Stay tuned to the CRLiterature group for discussion journals and chats.
BONUS: We will be giving out arbitrary prizes to some participants each month!
We are hoping to select books that push the community's boundaries, in terms of what we're already reading, but that will also have mass appeal. We are also going to be choosing books that are widely available across English-speaking nations (for now Book Club is English-only) and across e-reading platforms. By rotating moderators, we are hoping that selections will be diverse, both in terms of style and genre, and in terms of author background and point of view.
We are also excited at the possibility of
April PromptHere ye, here ye!More Like This
The month of April has begun and a challenge has been issued.
Because the movie Frozen has now captured the world with its chilled beauty, we at DisneyLit would like you to come up with a story.
Here're the rules:
Using only the main characters (Olaf, Sven, Kristoff, Hans, Elsa and Anna) from the movie, change the personality of one (just one!) character, give them a complete 180, and tell the story. Yeah it could mean that Hans turns out to be a good guy, Olaf could be even worse than the giant snowman or that Elsa really is evil, but just see where the story could go with one different character.
Start the story just how the movie starts. That does not mean you can't add extra backstory, but keep the storyline the same up to the coronation. From then on, its fair game.
There is no limit to how many submissions you can send in.
Send all submissions to the April 2014 Prompt--Frozen Fanfic folder.
At the conclusion of the month, depending on how many entries we receive

Paid Fan Fiction OpportunityYes, you read that correctly. Soon, with the new Kindle Worlds feature, you can publish licensed fan fiction stories (on the Amazon Kindle or any device with the Kindle app), and receive royalties for it. Here's the catch (one of them, at least) - Amazon currently only has licenses to publish fan fictions from three worlds: the Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girls and Pretty Little Liars. They promise more worlds in the future. I certainly hope so. Personally, I'll be thrilled if they obtain the Transformers license.More Like This
Another catch, and not too surprising really, you have to follow their rules. Some of which include no pornography (not surprising), no offensive material (i.e. racial slurs, excessive violent or graphic content, excessive foul language - those last two seem somewhat subjective to me), no cross-overs, no poor customer service (i.e. quality control - misleading titles, poor formatting, no cover, etc.) and some others. Passive Voice vs Active Voice
I can see you're all excited.
To begin this article, I'll start by defining exactly what passive and active voice are.
With active voice, the agent (the person or thing carrying out the action) is the subject:
Harry ate six shrimp at dinner.
John opened the door.
Sue changed the flat tire.
There are two different types of passive voice constructions. In
Emotions in Writing and How to Portray ThemLit Basics WeekMore Like This
Wow, yes, emotions; they stir us, they sometimes rule us.
For your written world to come alive this critical element must be rightly imparted into your work. Your character’s emotional state is something that needs to be grasped in meaningful ways in order for a reader to begin caring about what is happening to them. Likewise, poets who write verses that do not express an emotional range will have lines that fall flat and lifeless on their intended readers.
Emotions are not one dimensional – each has a broad range of expression. For example, anger can be experienced anywhere from a mild annoyance, prompt bitter retorts, or become a barely-contained, seething cauldron; long before exploding into an unbridled rage. Often, intense feelings move through several stages all in one event.
Additionally, emotions seldom appear that are pure in their source; celebrated author and counselor H. Norman Wright, MFCC, CTS describes what mos

When I was in college, I took an early morning Anthropology class. I had to wake up at five to catch the bus. Ugh. Yeah, I'm not a morning person. But I did it. The first day, our instructor stood before us and starting reading from the textbook. Word for word. Completely monotone. I was asleep within ten minutes. The rest of the week was the same; arrive, begin listening to the instructor, pass out. I had to drop the class and get whatever refund I could, while I could. It was my worse class experience there.
Most people know that in public speaking, the person talking needs to vary their tone and speech patterns and such to hold their audience's attention. They need to have a rhythm. Otherwise, they'll end up putting the audience to sleep. The same applies to writing. If you use the same sentence length or structure continually, you'll be the literary equivalent of my instructor. Hook, Line, and Sinker: How to Start Your StoryHook, Line, and Sinker: How to Start Your StoryMore Like This
You have the story idea, a brief outline (or not), and enough motivation and/or preparation to place your fingers on the keyboard and think, Let's begin. But how does one, in fact, begin a story? How do you select the perfect scene to situate your reader without putting him to sleep? It's easy to become overwhelmed by the sea of possible beginnings before having typed a single word. This article provides a list of different ways to begin a story, long or short, pointing out their respective advantages and disadvantages. The right beginning can give you just the push you need to send you flying into the world of your characters.
A prologue is a scene or chapter that pertains to the story without featuring your protagonist at the present time. It might show your hero as a child; it might show your antagonist plotting to take over the world; it might show a
