Writing Paranormal CharactersAs a writer of prose, you may at some point to want to write about a character or characters which are paranormal. We could perhaps debate over the exact definition of the word paranormal, and some may prefer supernatural - a word more closely associated with magic, whereas paranormal tends to be taken to mean something outside the realms of science (though of course, it is not as clear-cut as that, and you may like to think that I am wrong in saying this).More Like This
For the purposes of this guide, both paranormal and supernatural refer to conscious beings, not found in the animal kingdom, that differ in some way to what I controversially call normal humans (some paranormal beings may be human, in part or in whole). To give some well-known examples: ghosts, vampires, witches, werewolves and mermaids all fall into this category. The details, of course, are up to the writer. If you t

Remember that world you read in your books
The memories formed from their pages
They took you to a place so far away
Got you away from your hesitations
You would live and breathe
Cry and grieve
For those characters you loved with your heart
Remember when you read that line
You thought about for a week longs time
It made you think about where you are
Why you're here
And why you're who you are
Remember when you struggled with just that
You were young and lost in the depths
It just took one thing to make you feel
'I like you' means its okay to be real
Remember when you picked up that pen
And created those worlds you felt good within
Gave them stories to take you away
And showed them to others,
At your dismay
Not everyone see's like you
It's a sad,
With words you can write what you feel,
Let it all out,
Hold you still
But that's not what they seen in you
Your work must not be good enough to express
Everything you could say at your best
Remember that world you read in yo

I don’t like you. I’ve never liked you. Unfortunately, I need you. I need you to tell my story. I need you to create my world. I need you to set me free.
I need your fingers typing on those keys, I need your mind riddling out the problems, and I need you to plough onward and upward no matter how hard it gets. Sweat, blood, and tears, I don’t care. You’ve got to fight this war, battle at a time, and win it. So I can be more.
It’s a slim hope, but it is the only one I have. In your head I am bound to mortality, frailty, and the limit of your meagre imagination. Out there – out there – I am subject to no one person. Out there I am bound to only black on white. Words on a page. Words that can lay seeds within a million minds. Out there I am a story capable of growing, moving, and stealing the dreams of anyone who learns of me…

I walk through the faceless crowd.
Full of despair and emptiness.
There is no hope or love here.
The faceless people push and shove past me,
All of them are trying to get somewhere.
Anywhere but here.
They don't see the lost soul amongst them,
They don't see the sadness reflecting in my eyes
Or the tears that threaten to fall.
I want to shout at them,
Scream for them to hear me.
But even as the first words escape my lips and into the open air.
The people just keep moving.
I collapse feebly onto the rough ground.
Begging for help.
But the people just push past.
No one stopping to save a life.
The people just keep walking.
Familiar faces appear of those I considered my friends and some even my family.
I reach out for them.
Desperately hoping someone will help me stand.
They just keep walking away.
Leaving me on the ground.
Left for dead.
They didn't realize
That today they could have been a hero,
They could saved a life.
If they only spared a few seconds
My guardian angelYou came into my life years ago,More Like This
Washing away my sadness and loneliness.
And replacing it with joy and friendship,
You showed me the light in this world,
When all I could see was darkness.
When I stumbled along the path,
You were right there right beside me,
To catch me before I fell.
You showed me that the world is not all that bad,
There are people out there that truly care.
You are a beautiful little angel,
Sent straight from heaven,
You wear your heart on your sleeve,
Its quite a noble and brave thing indeed.
Most would never do such a thing.
But yet you do.
With your kindness and gentleness,
You have warmed many hearts,
Perhaps even some of the coldest hearts,
You've shown me there is light in this world
You've made me strive to be better person,
And because of this I can never thank you enough.
My guardian angel.
The monster inside me.More Like This
As a young girl, I was always told to be wary of what lies in the darkness,
I was told of wicked and corrupt monsters that came out at night.
I was trained to stay inside when darkness covered the sky
Otherwise the monsters outside would get me.
For a majority of my young life. I heeded my parents words of wisdom.
However, growing up I learned of other monsters.
Ones who lurk in plain sight.
And I can promise you whole heartedly,
That those are scarier than the ones the night has to offer.
Those are the ones that will get you in the end.
They won't look like monsters, chances are they won't act like monsters either.
You may call them family
Perhaps a lover
Or maybe even a friend.
You'll never question their motives and you'll trust them wholeheartedly,
And that will be your demise.
For when your back is turned,
They'll stab you,
Leaving you to die on the cold floor,
Maybe even then you'll never see the monster inside.
Because these monsters are easily capable of deceiving
