The Death of One Who Never BelongedDuni was laying beside the waterhole near the main Westland dens, flicking pebbles into the water and sulking. The heat cycle had returned with a vengeance, and it had her very cranky. If that wasn't all, she'd hardly been able to see Keto or her cubs at all, lately. The family never seemed to be in the same place in the same time. And even that wasn't all. Now she was having the nightmares again, and not just of murdering that Pridelander, Kai, which was bad enough. Now she was having nightmares about Baya's death, too. She had heard roars in the distance, why hadn't she gotten there sooner? Could she have saved Baya? Baya's cold, lifeless red eyes would stare at her, as would Kai's. Dead, accusing. Duni gave a tormented groan and swiped a bunch of dirt and pebbles into the waterhole with a snarl. She hated this pride! She hated it so much, now. All she had wanted in life was to matter, to be of help to her pride. Important. Valued. But no, she knew now it would never happen for her.
