Succsessing L (Chapter 9)Matt was working with Near? No way, no, it wasn't happening. He was just over thinking it, by saying "sorry Matt" Near surely didn't mean Matt from Wammy's. But if it was a different Matt, why would he apologise? Must have been over something simple, maybe one of Near's stupid dice towers fell, and some guy named Matt tripped over them.

Because, Matt would never do this to him. Matt would never go work with Near. Matt understood that Mello hated Near. He had been there on the countless occasions when Mello would come back fuming because 'the list' had just gone up. Matt knew how much it hurt him when Near won, so he would simply never go work with him.
He wasn't even supposed to be thinking of Matt! Matt was a distraction, he always had been, asking him to play video games when he was CLEARLY studying, then whining and moping when he refused. Matt was the only person with enough nerve or lack of intellect to stand up to him in any way. Matt made him frustrated and angry, and tiered.
Succsessing L (Chapter-8)In the centre of a large tiled room, computer monitors covering each wall, a small boy sat with one knee to his chest. He was playing with toys, and to any outsider, he would look as though he had nothing on his mind. On the contrary, Near had everything on his mind. He knew that kira was on the Japanese task force. The idea that kira might be connected to someone, rather than actually being there, was long deserted. So he went over the list again. The only one who seemed to fit anything was the "new L".
