Geek Nail Art FeatureIt's May, so it's time for something great! May is all about Performance Arts on ArtHistoryProject, Performance Arts are one of those things that hit you like a shipwreck and leave your mind buzzing with inspiration. For this feature I chose two things that are very close to my heart: Nail Art, and Geek culture.
Note: If you love Performance Arts don't hesitate to write an article or feature, join the fun!
Nail art goes far beyond applying a nice shade of nail polish, it is a piece of art that you get to parade around and show to the world. People will always notice a nice piece of nail art and commend you for it. After a few days you get a fresh canvas a new chance to explore your creativity!
Nail art involves a lot of precision and planning to make the best out of a space as tiny as a nail. Some people have created complete masterpieces on this tiny canvas, use

No one knows who was killed or in what fashion, but gossip has started to fly.
Are you a witch, wizard, ghoul, monster, or other citizen of Fairyland?
If so, the King would like to recruit YOU to help guide the Royal Detectives as they seek to solve the mystery surrounding the death in the Monarchy.
If you are a citizen and you would like to help give clues to the detectives (game players), simply note Halloween-HQ, tell us which magical creature you are (please be creative), and state that you would lik

What are these dolls?
These dolls are called Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD). A ball-jointed doll is any doll that is articulated with ball and socket joints. In contemporary usage when referring to modern dolls, and particularly when using the acronyms BJD or ABJD, it usually refers to modern Asian ball-jointed dolls. These are cast in polyurethane synthetic resin, a hard, dense plastic, and the parts strung together with a thick elastic. They are predominantly produced in Japan, South Korea and China. The BJD style has been described as both realistic and influenced by anime. They commonly range in size from about 60 centimetres (24 in) for the larger dolls, 40 cm (16 in) for the mini dolls, and all the way down to 10 cm (4 in) or so for the tiniest of the tiny BJDs. BJDs are primarily intended for adult collectors and customizers. They are made to b

Working Without a Pattern
Hi everyone! I'm TheSmall-Stuff and what I love is to make amigurumi, but I'm never patient enough to use a pattern. Because of this, I've found and developed a bunch of techniques that I use while designing the dolls that I make! What I'm going to try to do is explain my thought process in making a doll, and share some of the techniques that I use to form the shapes and the details in a character. Sorry it's long, but I tried to use lots of pictures. I hope this helps! Lets start
Shapes are key!
When you go to make a doll, you need to pick it apart in your head and see all of the shapes that make the character. Sometimes it's easier to draw out a diagram of all of the pieces that go into the doll, to get a good idea of how it fits together. While you're planning, it's good to be thinking "How do I make this?" while you choose shapes. However

Modeling advice you should check out!More Like This
Invaluable advice for improving your portrait photography, check out the roundup above for all of the articles!
I like to believe that improving our stock photography is a goal we all share, and it doesn't matter if you take model shots, landscape shots, building shots or object shots, and everything between. There are giant swathes of tutorials, guides and help if you ask for it for improving all aspects of your stock photography - there is no excuse for not taking pride in your work and doing the best you can to improve, or for not knowing how to make the best use of your camera, surroundings and lighting

Seniority Announcement - July 2014More Like This
This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after Senior Member accolade -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out

Manwife and I are having a tiny little person! I am about three months and six days, I was horrifically ill at the start, in pain and couldn't move. That then went and the sickness began, morning, noon and night I wretched. I also wretched if I didn't eat every few hours. Fun.
As you may know I am terrified of needles and veins creep me out so the first (ever) blood test I had was traumatic. I wouldn't let them take it from the crook of my arm so they took it by my wrist. Mother managed to put the numbing cream on the wrong part of my arm. The midwife got the needle in and then went "Hmm, there's no blood" and "your vein's wiggling out of the way". I saw Mother's face fill with despair. She knew what was coming. Then suddenly someone was shouting "NO NO NO NOOOOOO! GETITOOOOOOUT!" Rather loudly.
However my second one went well, the numbing cream worked well and the midwife got it on t

This commission batch is for all regular ponies and fillies, canon or OC. Alicorn OC's not available at this time.
If you would like an alicorn oc using the regular pony base that's fine and is priced the same as unicorns/pegasi/earth ponies.
There will be 25 spots open - You may order up to 6 ponies and 2 princesses (cadence, chrysalis, luna) at a time. There is no limit for fillies.
HOW TO ORDER:
When commissions open, send me a note of what you would like as well as your paypal address and country you reside in (for shipping purposes). I will be sending out invoices that have to be paid within 24 hours for your commission to be locked in. Hopefully this will solve the whole currency conversion kurfuffle as well as keep things a little more organized on my side.

A few of the more complex OC's will be completed and mailed out the first week of February. Please let me know if there's been any changes to your mailing address. If you have ordered Queen Chrysalis or a princess from me those will be finished the second week of February. OK
I am going to take a large batch of commissions again the first week of March, (I will post exact time closer to the date) and then during the summer months I'll be taking small batches of OC's, and then another large batch around September which will be finished for Christmas delivery. Something has come up so Chrysalis/Alicorn commissions will be opening on the 15th. Unfortunately due to my workload from the previous commission batch I will not be taking Alicon OC's this round but definitely will next time.
Also there seems to be some confusion- by "Alicorn" I mean the body type, not just Alicorns in general. If your OC is an Alicorn and has a pony type body you may order that when pony commissions open.

Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!More Like This
On the day of your birth, you were likely surrounded by those who loved you, who would lead you through the rough first scary years of life, and who would stand by as you grew into a capable person. As time passed, others may have drifted into your life, and even if you didn't know it, they also nurtured and cared for you in much the same way, helping to shape the person you would become.
When a community like deviantART is born, the same common thread binds its originators and founding members together. Over the years, more and more creative beings drift into its life and strengthen its core every single day, resulting in an exponentially inspirational powerhouse for the sheer fact that they've become a part of it. That nurturing spirit, that inherent support system, that caring community inspires deviantART to grow, and it comes from inside each and every one of you.

Forum Features #40 - January: Black + White!Once again, the Community Relations team is here to feature the artworks of deviantART's beloved forumers!More Like This
Once a month, we select one active member from the forums and we feature his or her gallery. This is someone we believe represents the forums well with both good forum-abilities and art.
As we're kind (and awesome), we also decided to give an opportunity for everybody to get featured! Every month, we create a thread in the Deviation Thumbshare Forum with a particular theme. This thread is made into a sticky for easy access. All you have to do is post thumbs of your artwork that match the theme and, at the end of the month, we select our favorite thumbs from that thread and feature them in the next news article.
The best thing is that being an active member of the forums is the only requirement!
Featured Forumer of the Month: KoutaTheCreator.
