I lay in the bathtub, the sun streaked down onto the floorboards as I allowed water to drip my fingertips to the floor in silence.
I began to cry again as the sound of one of Arrigo's favorite folk songs played over the radio from within the kitchen. He hadn't returned yet. Maria was no longer in the house; Anizia had come by for a visit early in the morning.
She decided she wanted to spend more time with Maria and took her to the café for the day, but she stayed to have breakfast with me. It wasn't till after I helped Anizia clear the table Maria decided she wanted to stay with her godmother the rest of the week.
I wasn't sure if Maria was ready for such a long period of time away from me. But she was adamant about staying, Anizia was more than happier to oblige and I packed a weeks worth of clothes and sent her on her way.
