BlessingMy father strangled a birdMore Like This
quietly, calm as gravity,
there in the garden. He bent
as if praying to the torqued wing
reddening his hand.
The night hunkered down on the screaming
wildness, on the kicking legs, the abrupt
and awe-filled silence. I watched him
watch the beak open, close,
like rippling lake water.
I loved him, the mercy
of his heavy knuckles, the kindly
He closed the beak like a priest
closes the eyes.

IV. What A Joke, or 12:01
to get on with
the next day at a time
To envisionBy the light of morning the rosetip treesMore Like This
stand poised as if twinkling guardians
of some brook-laugh secret.
God dwells in a fig tree,
her spellbound history
runs up and down her trunk like a river;
My grass is rich with blade-soft green
and a delicate sheen beneath the sloping ground
sends treasures upwards through the soil
to linger at my feet;
In every bird-sound is a colour,
in every winking colour a truth
whose key is a silver weight in my hand,
and I can see into everything
forever and ever into the end of time
where the eternal gardens begin.
DreamscapeI dreamed of vivid colours once,More Like This
of bloody red and inky blue,
while life was ruled by lonely gray,
washed-out black and too-bright white
that left its canvas' edges frayed.
A brush that painted only dreams unreached
and expectations unfullfilled,
left a drowning world and city ruins,
and endless roads untravelled.
Colour had long bled out and faded,
living on in distant memories
of a shining sun that dawns in red
and chases away the black of the night,
and a bright, wide sky drenched in blue
fighting the desert of white.
My #WatchForeverMore Like This
I'm jumping on the #WatchForever bandwagon and have compiled a list containing a few of my favorite deviants. The following artists are not only tremendously talented, but, having had the opportunity to meet a handful in real life, I can also attest that they're good people.
My years on DeviantArt have provided me a wealth of friendships I wouldn’t otherwise have had the opportunity to make. These friends have opened me up to different ideas, cultures, and points of view. I'm forever grateful to have talked with every deviant who has crossed my path — at a Deviant Meet, or even in a note, comment, or journal.

PE: Seniority, What Does It Mean?Senior WeekMore Like This
Seniority on DeviantArt is that cool thing that gives a user a pretty medal next to their username. Today I'd like to shine a bit of light on what seniority actually means.
Before we dive into all of this though I'd like to start out by quoting :faq29:
"So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognize their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endeavour, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many others who deviate to be reco
Misconceptions about SenioritySenior WeekMore Like This
Browsing the site, it's not that uncommon to find out people expressing their thoughts and beliefs about Seniority related topics. Do you need to be popular in order to become Senior? Can Seniors ban people? Do they have influence on staff decisions? ...and so much on. Unfortunately (or luckily, depends on the point of view ), most of these opinions are just urban legends, meaning they're totally not true. With this journal, I'd like to clarify some of the most popular common beliefs and explain you why they're wrong.
Before we start, I'd like you to read :faq29:. I will be covering this matter several times, but I think it can help to understand the whole thing better.
You need to be famous in order to be choosen as Senior member
WRONG. Fame might help in order to get you suggested, but it's not a crucial requirement. The number of watchers or pageviews on your profile doesn't really influence the choice, since there are members
#DA-FLOWERS : ABSTRACTOGRAPHY CONTESTMore Like This
DEAR MEMBERS AND WATCHERS !
OfficialDA-Flowers is excited to announce the launch of our "ABSTRACTOGRAPHY CONTEST"
The contest theme revolves around the meaning of the portmanteau word absractography (ABSTRACT - meaning to extract or remove, and GRAPHY - meaning "writing" or a "field of study"). In this sense, we can understand the theme as re-interpreting flowers and dissecting their elements for the purpose of re-introducing it in a new, fresh and exciting way.
If you are a photographer, you could use a macro lens to zoom on a selected texture or pattern in a flower. If you're a painter, you could re-interpret the colors of a baby pink rose and paint an abstracted image of that color palette. if you're an artisan, you could create a medal sculpture that embodies the structure of a lotus flower.
