Commission for :iconmuffyderp: based on the work of official MLP comic book artist :iconandypriceart: as seen here: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-zhVfFJmHwwI…

This took me way too long to make, particularly because it's the second one I made. The first one didn't turn out so well (i'll post it later and perhaps sell it on ebay) so I started over from scratch. I wasn't going to make the cups at first but then I realized I could do the mane and tail better if I has a base.

Anyway, I am pretty happy with how it came out. I think it looks even better in person (it's hard to get a good perspective with just one photo).

Commissions are still open, although only a spot or two left. Send me a note if interested! Once I close commissions they probably wont open for another month or so!

Another successful light up piece with a switch!

Zecora is made of apoxie sculpt and super sculpey over a wire and foil armature, painted with acrylics, and sealed with matte acrylic spray. Height-wise, Zecora stands a little over 7 1/2 inches including the base. She has a 3V LED in her staff.

Zecora is currently available for sale, $110 with free shipping in the US (or add $10 for outside the US). Drop a note!

DJ PON3 or Vinyl Scratch I don't really know, I like that someone said Vinyl Scratch is her name and DJ PON3 is her DJ name. Some of the colours are lighter, then what I would want, and also if your confused on what colour is what just comment and i'll fix/ help you. Also free to change colour, and free to use just link it back to me.

Pinkie is for sale! [link]

Pinkie Pie is made entirely from minky fabric. She has machine embroidered eyes and cutie mark. Her wings are wired and can be posed. They're attached to her removable waistband. Pinkie's 'horn' ties around her head.

Twilight wasn't the only pony to get wings in the finale!! xD

Page 2: [link]

Supplies

Material (see below)
General purpose thread in matching colors
Small, sharp scissors
Hand-sewing needles
Polyester fiberfill (stuffing)
Marker and cardstock

Supplies that aren't absolutely required, but make life easier

Beeswax - run the thread through it before sewing to prevent tangles
Locking forceps - aka hemostats. Help with turning ears and legs
Curved needle - good for finishing seams
Plastic "beanie" pellets - weight down the legs to make the plushie stand better

Material

There are several choices for fabric, each with good and bad points.

Felt
pros: Very cheap, comes in lots of colors, available in craft stores.
cons: Shows stitching, hard to turn.

Fleece
pros: Comes in lots of colors, easy to work with, widely available.
cons: Shows seams, can stretch and distort the shape, can be expensive.

Minky
pros: Decent range of colors, very soft finish, good for smaller plushies.
cons: Hard to find in stores, very floppy so it requires interfacing, shows seams.

Faux Fur
pros: Very cuddly, doesn't need interfacing to hold shape, seams barely show at all, good for big plushies.
cons: Can be expensive, usually less colors available, slightly more difficult to work with.

If you're using felt, fleece or minky, I strongly recommend you use iron-on interfacing. This is a thin material which keeps the fabric from flopping around and stretching, which can make it hard to sew and distort the pattern. Interfacing also makes it much easier to trace the pattern onto the fabric.
Cut the interfacing to fit and place it on the back of the fabric, rough-side down. The roughness is a heat-activated glue which melts when you iron it and adheres the interfacing to the fabric. Follow the instructions that come with the interfacing.

You'll also want to decide how you're going to finish your pony's mane & tail and facial features. Some choices for eyes and cutie marks are: iron-ons, embroidery, plastic safety eyes, felt, fabric paint. For mane, you can use yarn, embroidery floss, sewn shapes, cut felt or faux fur. I've included a generic tail pattern as a guideline, but there are so many different manes you are best off designing your own.

FAQ

Finished deviation Gilda the Griffon by aachi-chan

July 15 - She's all finished! I'll take some final photos here in a little bit after I eat some lunch :D

July 10 - I added a pic of her with the detachable wings sitting next to her so you can see the connection. In addition to the armature wire that sticks into the main hole in her back, I added a little short wire to keep it from rotating, doing this sort of thing is usually called pinning. I will be shipping Gilda with her wings detached because I'm pretty darn sure that if I permanently stuck her wings to her back and shipped her, the clay in her back would break in shipping when her wings would get jostled.

July 9 - Her wings are taking a long time to do because I'm making them out of epoxy so they will be strong and less likely to break. So every time I add clay to the wings I have to wait like 4 hours until it hardens until I can add more.

July 6 - I got the basic shape of the big feathers down but I need to do some work on them to shape them better before I add the smaller feathers. Part of what I need to do is make the feathers match up in length on its matching counterpart on the other wing. But with these base feathers to work from adding to and taking from them will be easier.

July 5 - All that's left to sculpt is her wings. I'll have to make it with epoxy so the feathers will be strong. So it'll take a while to get it all done because the epoxy takes a few hours to dry. Also, the tail has wire in it that is really strong. I can't remember what metal it is because I bought it a few years ago but I just now get to use it again since I left it here at my dad's house. Whatever metal it is, I do remember I got it at Ace and it was kept with the building wire stuff and it's really hard to bend so it shouldn't bend inside the figurine  (and therefore crack and break it) unless it gets hit really really hard.

July 3 - I'm really happy with how her head and face turned out. Her eyelashes on her right broke but that's no problem, I was going to go back in and strengthen weak parts with epoxy clay anyway so I'll just remake those eyelashes with the epoxy.

EDIT:It's been pointed out to me that the font I've used might not be easy for everyone to read, so I've included the text version here too. :)

EDIT 2 (30/12/11):

:bulletpink: A few people have asked me what kind of stitching I used for this. However, I have no idea what any kinds of stitches are called! ^^; Thankfully, ~ShihonRainbow linked me to a video on YouTube that informs me that it's called an overlock stitch - you can watch the tutorial here: [link]

:bulletpurple: I've also had a few people ask what the 'cotton' is used for. By 'cotton' here, I mean thread - it's sometimes called cotton here in the UK... Sorry for any confusion caused! ^^;

Also...

:bulletblue: OMG - a DD? :omg:

Text version:
Captain Devlin's Plushie Donut Tutorial

----------------------------------

You will need:

- 1 piece of tan or brown coloured felt

- 1 piece of felt for the icing (this can be any colour you like!)

- Cotton (to match the colour of the felt - don't worry if it's not an exact match, just try and get it as close as you can.)

- an OLD CD (to use as a template)

- thin card (for making a template)

- needles

- a pen or pencil (for marking)

- small beads (such as bugle beads or seed beads)

- polyester fibre (for stuffing)

---

1 - Place the CD onto your piece of card and draw around it. Next, draw a wiggly shape within the outlines of the CD. This will be your template for the icing on your donut.

2 - Draw around the CD again, this time onto the tan coloured felt. You need to do this twice, for the top and bottom of your donut. Place the blobby template you just made from thin card onto the other coloured felt and trace around it. Cut the shapes out carefully, and don't forget the little holes in the middle!

3 - Place the icing on top of one of the tan circles, making sure the holes in the middle are lined up with each other. Stitch around the edge of the icing piece to secure it to the tan felt. Sew the hole in the middle first - this helps to keep the icing piece in place as you sew the rest of it.

4 - Sew some small beads onto the 'icing', so that they look like sprinkles. I use a running stitch to do this, meaning I just use one long piece of thread to sew them all on, rather than tie off after every bead individually. Make sure you fasten the beads securely - loose threads mean dangly beads, and you don't want that!

5 - Once you've finished decorating your top layer, place it on top of the other tan circle and begin sewing the two sides together. Begin by sewing the centre circle in first, and stitch right around the outside edges, leaving a gap of about 2-3 inches (5-7cm).

6 - Start stuffing your donut. Push the stuffing in right around to the furthest part of the donut, and fill towards the opening from either side. If you find it hard to get the stuffing in with your fingers, try using a pen or pencil to poke it in. Kneading the stuffing with your fingers as you fill your plushie helps to stop it from becoming lumpy. In my opinion, it's better to overstuff plush donuts than to underfill them. No-one wants a flat donut... :D

7 - Sew the gap shut, and squish the filling around with your fingers again to ensure an even distribution of stuffing right the way around.

Now you're done! :)

---

I've been meaning to do a tutorial for ages... ^^; The only other guide I've seen for making plush donuts seemed needlessly complicated, so I thought I'd share my method of doing it. :D

You can download a simple pattern here: [link]

Hopefully everything makes sense - I'm more than happy to answer any questions if not! :aww:

As always, constructive comments are welcome too!

Thanks to ~theANDROidroMEDiA for helping out with a few of the photos. :)

These are kind of stupid. I drew the top one several months ago at Chuck E. Cheese with my daughter and the bottom one I drew this morning in the waiting room of the doctor's office with my daughter. I just decided to take these two and color them and post them because, well, why not...

Little story: In the doctor's office, I was finishing up the drawing just as the doctor came in. He asked what I was drawing and then spent the first several minutes of Celestial's appointment talking with me about art (His brother is a concept artist for a video game company apparently). I was really really embarrassed that he saw my drawing and commented on it but I also really enjoyed our talk about art and TMNT. :)

It has been a busy week, and looks like it would get busier in the foreseeable future.
But that shouldn't stop me from improving myself.

update 2014.3.16:
I have received many comments regarding formal wear being a funeral dress. I need to apologize for my ignorance. When I tried to work on her formal cloth, I thought some kind of gothic veil seem to fit with her temperament. I did not understand that it is actually a funeral dress.
