First lightpainting photo ive done.

Used red and green Starburst sticks ( you light them and they burn with different colors ), 2x Led lights ( blue tinted ).
Several 30 seconds exposures stacked and combined in photoshop, detail extracted and sharpened.

Was a bit lucky as well to catch some northern lights in between the clouds.

Cleaned up some of the blown highlights before adding a slight vignette at the end.

Shot with Nikon D800, 14-24mm f/2.8, @ 14mm, f/5.6, iso 100 and iso 1600 for the background and sky.

*fixed the overpowering reds in the image.

Missing out on the aurora on St. Patrick's Day sucked, can´t do much about the weather :(.

But was nice to be able to capture this right after I had gotten home from Tromsø. :D

Was a small dock where I shot this that has a light pointed upwards which instantly triggered a composition idea.
This is artisticly edited, meaning cooler colors and a bit of purple tint, the highlights on the ground is also increased.

This is why I go up the mountain every day, and it makes things more fun when able to capture such cool shapes within the aurora.

Oh an may i add, it has been some heavy days lately, have to dress for standing still, which means when moving up a mountain with all the camera gear it is quite hard. :D
But it is all worth it for a shot like this, I am very proud of this cause I feel I was finaly able to capture the aurora where it speaks for itself with almost no foreground help. :)

For the post processing: contrast +30, clarity +32, lower by 300 temp to bring forth the stars, increased whites and blacks by a smidge, reduced the purple saturation a tad, lens correction.
Used hyperfocal distance to get everything in focus, so wasnt much need for sharpening really, but added some to it.

Too cloudy for any aurora capture, but I found it to be a good thing, these streaking clouds created this weird reflection which made the perfectly still water look like there was waves. :)

Storstein is a beautiful place with a long shoreline with a lot of rocks and if you are here at the right time during the midnight sun period it will shine straight in from where you see the gap in the middle between the mountains.
There also goes a ferry to Arnøya from here, a beautiful place with tall mountains and more than enough dramatic scenery.

From hands down the most insane night of aurora I have ever seen, not that it was the strongest that has been but the color display was so different than the usualy mostly green auroras.

I saw the strongest aurora activity of my life last night. It was March 2013 when we could see a strong aurora activity but this one was even stronger! 8.67 Kp was the maximum to my knowledge so far which means probably it could have seen even in Central Europe grin emoticon
I've been so many night out for aurora shooting, even if it was just to get a green glow on northern horizon, but last night it was everywhere! So i could go to any place almost and i wasn't limited too much compositionalwise.
I must say that this has been the most awesome experience of my life, but i had to return home at the point of starvation grin emoticon

Many more photos from this night will be coming soon!

A couple mornings ago when i got off work i went to shoot some northern lights. They were going strong all night and were still going less than an hour before sunrise. The town lights of Canmore, AB reflect off the clouds but wow what an amazing show that morning!

personally Im seeing a woman with long hair in the aurora shape, which resulted in this title. :)

And I do think that if the aurora was to be a person it would have to be a woman, or a lady to be precice. ;)
